I don’t have any concerns in the social or academic aspect about moving from my pre-college identity to Framingham State. In High school I was always involved with extracurricular activities such as Student Council, School Council, Community Service Club, and Step Up to excellence while still maintaining a part time job. Similar to high school I want to get involved in my community at Framingham State University such as participating in the Afro-Caribbean Dance, Alternative Spring Break, and Aspiring Health Professionals Club while still working part time job. In the summer of 2015 upon entering my junior year I was given the wonderful opportunity to spend the Summer at Brown University. Where I participated in the program of “Watching…

Exercise 2.1 If I add my tuition, cost of books, supplies, gas to get to and from class, and my MacBook for one semester it totals to about $5,050. If I divide that total by the total number of hours I will be in class, which is 92, I get $55. It will cost me $55 per class day to attend college next semester. $55 may not seem like a lot of money here and there, but everyday for 16 weeks it begins to add up. A total of $5,050, is a lot of money and I make sure to get use out of every penny.…

Learning is multidimensional. Very seldom will a learner use just one type of learning style. There are four different learning styles: Visual, aural, read/write, kinesthetic and multimodal. Multimodal is a combination of two or more of the learning styles. Part A: The two aspects of the effective pedagogy statement from the New Zealand Curriculum (Ministry of Education, 2007) that I will focus on are creating a supportive learning environment and making connections to prior learning and experience. These are two aspects that resonate with me and I consider them to be significant factors in effective teaching practices. Creating a supportive learning environment is important for a teacher to consider because it sets the foundation of the classroom, both physically and emotionally, between all members of the classroom community. For a teacher to be effective positive relationships need to be developed, not just with the students, but also with the wider school community, such as parents so that…

We started the first day of this course talking about teacher identity. I do not think my opinion about my identity as a teacher has changed drastically during the semester. I did change some aspects of the way I teach, however I still do not completely identify myself as a teacher. That is because I am a graduate student and I want to be successful as a student, before being successful as a teacher. I enjoy teaching right now, but I think that when being a teacher will be my full time job, then my opinion about my teacher identity will change more.…

Getting to know my students’ names and their personalities demonstrates respect and dignity for students as persons with varied interests, needs, backgrounds, points of view, plans, goals, and aspirations. Being in a linear school, it is extremely hard to learn the names of approximately 180 students in such a short amount of time. Therefore, even before I was fully immersed, I was taking attendance trying to put a face to the name and making students more personable to me. In addition, I was working my way around the classroom during student group discussions and activities. For example, in my PE 8 class I have developed a good rapport with many of my students allowing me to build a respectful relationship that we can both benefit from.…

After developing an introduction it is time to get to the main aspect of lesson planning, the learning activities. This is how a teacher presents the information and explains it to his or her class. It is important for teachers to plan multiple ways of explaining each topic in case the students are having difficulty grasping the information. The next is developing a way to test the students understanding whether it be asking them simple questions at the end of a lecture or creating an assignment for them to do. The last step to developing a lesson plan guideline is creating a conclusion and a preview for the next lesson.…
