SUBJECT: Analysis of Presidential Succession Plans
The purpose of this memo is to discuss the plans the business has to appoint the next President. I will specifically cover the possibility of Charlie’s appointment as President, the plans for succession, other possible candidates, and the future ownership specifications. The transfer of ownership and a well thought through succession plan is of the most importance.
Tackling the notion of Charlie’s succession as President of Adams Funeral Home, he looks like the most viable solution to the problem. Charlie is well-educated in the field he is being vetted for. He has the appropriate education with a strong will to succeed.

The most effective narrative in my opinion is “The Embalming of Mr. Jones” by Jessica Mitford. In the essay Mitford talks about the malpractices committed by funeral homes. Mitford explains, “About three to six gallons of a dyed and perfumed solution formaldehyde, glycerin… is soon circulating through Mr. Jones whose mouth has been sewed together with a “needle directed upward between the upper lip and gum and brought out through the left nostril,””…

Recommendations Currently, Duke Energy is experiencing issues with transitioning leadership but if Duke Energy does not address these issues before the company loses fifty percent of its employees over the next five years due to expected retirements, these issues will more than likely become a much more serious problem that could lead to the company folding. Gary Dessler (2017), in the textbook Human Resource Management defines succession planning as “the ongoing process of systematically identifying, assessing, and developing organizational leadership to enhance performance” and Dessler (2017) emphasizes that this process “entails three steps: identify key position needs, develop inside candidates, and assess and choose those who will fill…

Ulmer proposed a definition of a toxic leader as “individuals whose behavior appears driven by self-centered careerism at the expense of their subordinates and unit, and whose style is characterized by abusive and dictatorial behavior that promotes an unhealthy organizational climate”.
