In Ted Kolderie’s review “Young People are All Right: The Problem is Adolescence”, he writes that The Dumbest Generation by Mark Bauerlein is a book that is an assault on anyone under the age of thirty. He mentioned how in his book, Bauerlein went over “how little people under thirty know, how little they read, and how their fascination with screens (television and computer) fails to produce learning.” He then talked about how the author is upset with the “digital enthusiasts” and those who tell the young people that they are a great generation. Kolderie then talked about the book The Case Against Adolescence written by psychologist from the University of California San Diego Robert Epstein, and how his argument was that “Adolescence infantilizes…

An example that can be used to explain the term Bandwagon can simply be an presidential election. If somebody has to vote and doesn’t have no knowledge to what the presidential candidates are presenting to do once president. They would mostly likely vote for the candidate that people say are the best and everybody is voting him or her, coming up in their heads that that candidate is obviously the best choice for president. Hasty Generalization is when somebody is jumping to conclusion before having all the facts. An example of this would be somebody going to the first day of class and already coming to the conclusion that the class is going to be easy.…

For example, this woman named Valerie Tarico wrote an article about being pro-abortion and just not just pro-choice. Pro-choice is when you get to make the decision, so in this case it should be the woman's choice. Pro-abortion is when you are out rightly saying I believe in the abortion procedure and what it does. Tairco commented and said “ I believe that abortion care is a positive social good -- and I think it’s time people said so”. What she means by “social good” is giving 10 examples that she think justifies that act by listing 10 reasons why women should actively get abortions and back some of them up by factual evidence.…

God has always established his kingdom among all people and places, calling Prophets and other leaders to look over the Church. Unfortunately the adversary is cun- ning, and tries his best to establish his power right along side God’s. Throughout the history of the Earth, antichrists and other enemies of our Father in Heaven have emerged in an attempt to lead away the saints, and bring their souls unto destruction. The Bible contains many accounts of the efforts these enemies have produced, but the Book of Mormon sheds further light on the subject, and will help the people in these lat- ter days to be prepared to face such opposition.…

The three fallacies I chose to visit on the websites were the Straw Man Fallacy, the Ad Hominem fallacy and the Slippery Slope fallacy. All three of these fallacies are bad arguments because they do not provide a good premises, and they misrepresent the conclusion. First, the Straw Man fallacy occurs when someone creates an exaggerated view to discredit the opponent’s actual view. For example, a person wants to convince someone to change their beliefs, so they exaggerate their point of view.…

Argumentum ad hominem Ad hominem arguments are personal attacks that have nothing to do with the truth of the target’s statements. Donald Trump uses this technique in practically every speech he gives. Hillary Clinton brought into question about his tax returns and why he hasn’t showed them, to which Trump makes an ad hominem statement of “I did! I emailed them to you” As a cheap shot of her controversial “Mass email” deletion.…

The seven “common logical fallacies” are Sweeping Generalization, Ad Hominem, Non Sequitur, Either/ Or Fallacy, Begging the Question, and Bandwagon. Hasty generalization is something that is based on too little evidence or facts. Sweeping generalization is something that cannot be supported no matter how much facts or evidence you have on the subject. Ad hominem (argument to the person) is when you attack a person instead of the issue at hand. Non sequitur is a statement that does not follow from the previous argument or statement logically.…

Logical Fallacies are errors in reasoning that render arguments invalid and misrepresent issues. These assertions are often presented in ways that make them appear as proven facts, but they are often the opposite. Individuals using logical fallacies on purpose promote dishonesty, remove strength from arguments, and accuse readers of being unintelligent. These are found in essay writing, editorials, politics, slogans, social media posts, and advertising. Logical fallacies are arguments lacking in reasonable opposition and promoting unrealistic or unproven ideas.…

e as people pick and chose what we want to when it comes to explicit commandments. According to page 67 in the Ethical Toolbox, it states “There are also a large number of explicit commandments that almost no one takes seriously and almost all of us feel free to ignore.” If a person can ignore certain explicit commandments that means they are choosing what they want to believe in. Power of Speech “He showed it was possible to make a weak argument stronger through careful construction, and taught his art to willing pupils.” This quote from Strategy, by Lawrence Freedman, means that the strength of an argument depends on the ability one can speak. An argument between either an individual or a group can easily be defeated by one’s ability to speak. Persuasion is easily achievable with a powerful speech using both listening and speaking, but the most vital is speaking skills. Speech allows for an individual to lead a conversation, portray a picture, and convince the listener.…
