One of the most common complementary therapies used for the treatment of horses is acupuncture. This consists of the stimulation of specific, predetermined points along a horse’s body to achieve a therapeutic effect and is used for a variety of different conditions including lameness, inflammation, reproductive issues, fever and pain. Acupuncture is commonly regarded as one of the least dangerous types of complementary therapy, when performed by an experienced acupuncturist and according to Anderson (2016) is found to be most effective when used on horses.
