“What do you want to be when you grow up?” This is the question that is asked to every child as they grow up, so of course when you are younger you say a horse trainer or a teacher because you love horses or your teacher. With age your love and passion for things can change and be altered. My idea of a dream job has changed from a ceramist, then a vet, to a teacher, and finally an actuary. My first occupation ideas were very common options, but with a small career questionnaire I was able to come across the title actuary. Like many others I had never heard of an actuary before, so I decided to research it to find out what it was. Through research, I found that it combined a couple of my passions into one profession, math and a challenge. To become an actuary, I will need to earn a bachelor’s degree and take five to seven tests similar as to what an accountant or a pharmacist must do. By attending the University of Northern Colorado, I plan to obtain this bachelor’s degree in mathematics to better qualify myself for a position in the actuary career field. During my time in college I would like to take internships at varying companies that provide an actuary position to learn the basics of the job. My goal is to graduate college with a high GPA to display my dedication to my education to others. Once I become an actuary I want to be able to make challenging decisions for companies that look for my advice. I want to be able to lead others with this career to be honest, fair, and to challenge themselves. With this job my goal is to be a leader in a company, and by doing so I hope to show girls how strong they can be a strong leader in whatever career path they choose.
