Activity 1.8 Habits Of Group Interaction

Improved Essays
On activity 1.8 I helped my group members understand the handshake problem, which we first experimented with in a class activity. At first some of my group members wanted to just count the amount of people there were and multiply it by the amount of handshakes that each person would perform if they shook hands with every person. I realized the problem with using this method is that some handshakes would be performed twice, we wanted the amount of handshakes if each person shook hands with every person only once. Once we realized this, it was easy to figure out how many handshakes would occur with a small group because we could just count, but with a large number this proved more difficult. Finding a formula that worked was easy, the more difficult …show more content…
This falls under the private reasoning time of the Habits of Interaction. My group did this very well on the activities that we did in class, this is because we were all very passionate about this habit. We did this particularly well on Activity 1.4, this was a longer activity that was a bit confusing, but each of us worked the problem out on our own before collaborating as a group. When we were talking we could understand where maybe a group member made a mistake or got confused, or if I made a mistake and they helped me better understand what I did …show more content…
It can be hard to explain your work in a way that makes sense to others and to get your thinking and logic behind it. I think we did this very well on all of our activities but Activity 1.8 was one that really stood out to me. This activity we debated a lot on, we each tried to figure out a process that worked for us, we then shared our ideas and explained each of our strategies. We had a hard time explaining why the formula that we had come up with was divided by 2. The best way that we finally came up with after each of us explaining it in our own way, was that there would be double handshakes and if there were twice as many handshakes than were actually performed you had to divide it by 2.

I think in the future using Math reasoning to decide what is right and wrong instead of just using our logic. My group started to do more of this towards the end of the 2 weeks that we were together. It became easier the more that we learned and started better understanding the concepts. I am going to try my best to incorporate the math techniques that I already know and that we have learned to better understand my reasoning behind how I worked through a

Routine Activity: Theft at the Supermarket Anyone is capable of committing a crime because as long as there is a temptation, there is a potential for crime. According to the Routine Activity Theory, three elements are needed in order for a crime to take place: a target, a potential offender and the absence of guardians. Apart from that, this theory proposes that by changing the environment, crime can be reduced. Five techniques available to prevent crime are increasing the effort, increasing the risks, reducing the rewards, reducing provocation, and removing excuses. The target is the at the supermarket where I work at.…

    Routine Activity Theory

Another way of understanding and explain marijuana use within skateboarding culture, would be through the routine activity theory that Johns used in her dissertation. Despite her not finding a higher amount of substance use among skateboarders than other subcultures, she did find an increased amount of substance use among the older informants in the 12th grade. As mentioned in earlier, this would match the findings of Demant & Järvinen, and the routine activity theory may therefore be able to find an explanation of why older adolescents are likely to engage in substance use more generally. This may be because older adolescents are more likely to be without parental supervision, or spend more of their time in an unstructured manner since they…

While the teacher is helping the student along, he or she can monitor what areas the student might be struggling with. If the teacher is instructing a large classroom, this strategy might be better done in small groups. There is considerable evidence to indicate a that verbalizing upper level math problems has a pos6itive impact.…

Some of my classmates told me that we should ask questions that extend their thinking so I included this during the lesson and this was really helpful advice.…

Routine activities theory and Social disorganization theory can go hand in hand when looked at side by side. Both look at the environment of which and how one is raised. The ethnic and economic stability, as well as the education and parenting one, is given (“Social Disorganization and Rural Communities”, n.d.). As an emergency room nurse my mind is hard wired to treat patients as quickly as possible and have them vacate to an admissions bed or back home. The acute care environment can be so hectic that looking past a patient’s discharge instructions can easily be over looked. An emergency room nurse regardless of her or his acute care mindset still knows how to apply the nursing process to any plan of care at hand and it is no different to a plan of continuous care in a patient’s home. The key is sending home a plan formulated in conjunction with the input of the same medical professionals and support staff that took care of the patient in the first place. Nurses are no longer moving towards a care process of just following orders, yet as partners…

If you ask me whether or not I like children, my answer, given grudgingly, would always be yes. That’s not to say I have any particular dislike for them, but an hour of trying to teach them what the number 11 is when they try to count on their fingers can only be described as incredibly tiring. “Come on you guys, 11 is not the number 1”, I told them gently. It would have been another mind-numbing hour had one of the fellow student-helpers not suggested I use blocks instead. We made immediate progress from that point.…
