Activities Fair Day: Student Organization Investigation

Decent Essays
Students Organization Investigation Activities Fair Day was a good chance for me as a freshman to know more about UTA student organizations and start to involve in these groups which I was interested in. Among these fascinating groups and organizations, here are three that are the most attractive to me. The first organization is called Christians On Campus (COC). As the name said, they help Christians and non- Christians gather and read bible together. Through daily prayer, Bible reading, and Christian fellowship, they keep our focus on Christ. As a Christian, I think COC is a good place for me to find more friends who have same belief as me and grow my faith. They have meeting every Wednesday at lunch time. I will join them eating lunch

Summary of Activities Outside of our meeting on Sunday October 8th, I spent an hour looking up registration letters online, just to see what other examples are available. I was amazed at how many different registration styles there were. I coordinated with my classmates on clip art for the registration letter and downloaded the sample my professor uploaded for us. I completed the letter and I believe it’s perfect. I can’t wait for everyone to see it also.…

Introduction Religious organizations, especially on college campuses, can sometimes be viewed by the public as intimidating due to the rules and stereotypes associated with religious groups. Journey, a Christian worshiping community at the College of Charleston, encourages an open-minded approach to spiritual growth throughout college by communicating with students in a way that welcomes all types of students without judgment. This organization is a discourse community, a group of people that share common goals and communicate about a particular topic, at the College of Charleston. To determine this, I compared Journey to the discourse community discussed by John Swales in his academic article. In his piece, Swales explains that to be a true…

The number one organization that I really like was the NAACP. The purpose of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure equal rights and to spread equality and to spread positivity throughout the campus by doing community service, fundraising, political actions, and hosting educational events. An experience that changed my life forever was coming to Northwest Christian for high school. Before I attended Northwest I spent all of elementary school and middle school at Rancho Solano. Although my time there was great, it was taught in a strictly academic worldview. Then during my eighth grade year, I made the decision to enroll in Boulder Creek High School. I began to get nervous because of the change in size, but then I started to embrace the idea of change.…

The event I attended was Spirit Day at Poinciana campus on October 19th from twelve to two pm. That being said, I chose this event for the reason that I felt this occasion represents the identity and community shared by all the members of our institution. Not only that, but student involvement is important when representing your school and when improving your school environment. Thus, going to such event may have a significant impact on my college experience. This type of occurrence has the effect of making students feel more united, and unity only makes us stronger as individuals, which is why attending was important.…

In attempt to develop range in my observation of support groups, I once again found myself returning to an old stomping ground. Throughout my years in high school, I dedicated several hours a week to my local church in a growth group for high school girls. Although I currently experience mixed emotions with religion, I recalled how influential it was during my teenaged years to have such support, convincing me to return to observe a group to identify ways in why it was so helpful for me during difficult moments in my life. Luckily, my previous growth group leader was still leading groups and graciously accepted my request to be a guest that following week. Meeting once a week, the purpose of these groups was to discuss the Bible and life issues, but based on personal experience, these groups offered much more than a few life lectures.…

In Against All Odds: the Struggle for Racial Integration in Religious Organizations, authors Brad Christerson, Korie L. Edwards, and Michael O. Emerson present the results of their research into integrated religious organizations. To frame their research they employ a case-study approach, examining four congregations, a religious based university and a religious organization within a university. Through these case studies the authors examine what processes happen in an integrated religious community, and what can be learned about how these communities function and develop. Ultimately, Against All Odds concludes that while there is tremendous value in interracial worship experiences, there are significant challenges to forming and maintaining…
