Active Sketchbook Analysis

Decent Essays
Finally, I did keep an active sketchbook throughout this course. The sketches completed ranged from practicing techniques from class to experimenting with different mediums. This included ink, graphite, colored pencil, pitt pens, and pastel chalk. I think the sketchbook definitely kept me on my toes. I did not allow myself to get rusty with the techniques because of the sketchbook. It also became on outlet for me, whenever stressed or upset, I worked in the book and it seemed to help.

Even in 21st century, the age of technology, people use books as a source of entertainment and writing as a form of self-expression. Books and reading in general has many benefits like mental stimulation, gaining knowledge and much more.…

In True Notebooks, this is a memoir that you can see how important circumstances, experiences, people and events in the characters’ lives have influenced who they are and what they believe in. My skills deepen this semester, with the lit circle book, Hole in my Life. In Of Mice and Men I didn’t apply much thought. When something stood out I would usually underline it or write, “why? How?”, but with the lit circle books I chose a thought provoking page (since we only got one), and I pulled it apart with analytical thinking. I made connections with previous pages and wrote what they meant.…

I really enjoyed some of the writing technique essays that we read in class. I usually spend several hours doing just my rough draft. For some reason, I had never considered just doing word throw up on my paper to help develop my ideas. The first draft shouldn’t be the final. My first draft was terrible, because I just wrote whatever came to my mind often not in complete sentences.…

Using the graphic organizer is new, and more appealing to me than using the outline method. It can give me more insight and details of other points in the graphic organizer. Using the outline, I was consistent with the organization of topics, using the “most to least” of the significant topics in the organization method frequently. While topics were sometimes similar, they ended up migrating to other paragraphs in my unsuccessful trials of using the outline. I’ve learned how to set a thesis and tone in the introduction of an essay to help engage, illustrate, and set a mood for the audience.…

When I considered taking WRTG 101 this semester I was unsure how much it would affect my writing style. I have always had issues with the strength of my writing and my overall writing style. Whether it was run on sentences, proper citations, an overall passive writing style, or proper use of pronouns my writing style needed a tune up. After taking this class I have an improved overall understanding of the writing process and how to apply it in different writing situations. Run on Sentences were a concern before I took the class, however now I have a much better understanding of proper sentence structures.…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

In the article “An Ode to the User-Friendly Pencil”, Laing uses irony to illustrate that he prefers pencil more than computers because pencil has its own maintenance and simplicity. At the beginning of the article, Ling mentions the only modern technology he knows is “frozen waffles” (Laing 1). Frozen waffles are not considered to be a technology, it’s more like a common knowledge. The author uses a ironic way to show that he lacks the knowledge of advanced technology.…

Prior to completing ENGL 2200, I had many misconceptions. I believed creativity to simply turn a new and innovative idea into reality and in order to be creative as well as imaginative you must act on the ideas you develop. I learned that creativity is so much more in addition to being the foundation for developing newer technology, literature, artwork, and so much more in life. I also believed imagination to be a personal thing and what stimulates thoughts for myself may not be the same thing that stimulates thoughts for others. I am the type of person who when faced with a problem that needs a solution, I generate ideas with fluency and flexibility.…

Reading Memoir John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars, stated,” Great books help you understand, and they help you feel understood.” Actually, reading books helps me to explore the world. When I was just a little girl, I loved reading fairy tales which brought me to many vicarious thrilling adventures, and when growing up, non-fiction books taught me how to become a good person. Besides that, reading has brought me to many various levels of emotions, such as joy, love, hate, fear, and sorrow. Some stories not only make me feel euphoric with happy endings, but they also make me feel despondent when a character’s deep sorrow touched my heart.…
