Nedzel initially catches every person’s eye by starting off the very first sentence by listing every school shooting. Nedzel uses pathos in that moment to set a serious tone and begins to engage reader’s attention. The author notes that school shootings are shattering and has concerned society from the start. “Concealed Carry” shows how school shootings started as an individual killing one or two people, but has evolved to an individual killing a large number of faculty or students. Some parents or grandparents reading the article written by Nedzel immediately begin to visualize their children or grandchildren sitting innocently in the classroom when a terrifying being barges in the door with a gun ready to shoot their precious child and their friends.…

Four days after the shooting, investigators continue looking into Kelley's past and motive as people in the small town of Sutherland Springs are trying to cope with the tragedy. At least 10 people who survived the carnage remain hospitalized in critical condition. Other survivors along with members of this close-knit community comforted each other and gathered at a memorial of crosses near the First Baptist Church.…
Between 2000 and 2013, an estimated 160 active shooter incidents occurred within the United States resulting in 1043 casualties, 483 of which died (DHS, 2015). No pattern or commonality exists in the selection of victims; which supports that these types of situations evolve rapidly and are very dynamic. This essay will provide a training scenario for an active shooter response. There will be a discussion of the organizational goal, adjusted procedures, and their strengths and weaknesses within the organization, with an overall emphasis on effective communication.…
Two people, Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, were involved in a mass shooting on Wednesday in San Bernardino, California. The duo killed 14 people and left 21 people injured. With the ammunition they had, it looked like they planned the assault beforehand. They found a few bombs that did not go off at the scene and are using them for research. Investigators say that Farook had connections to some people who are under investigation for international terrorism and that might have been their motivation to start this mass shooting.…
Lyons uses real life shootings, to connect on an emotional level. She starts the article telling a story of a very fatal day. “As students and faculty walked across the Ohio State University campus in Columbus on Nov. 28, third-year student Abdul Razak Ali Artan suddenly plowed his car onto a busy sidewalk, got out and lunged at bystanders with a butcher knife. In less than two minutes he had wounded 11 people before a university police officer arrived and fatally shot him.” (1) This excerpt targets an emotional response of many, because the connections that so many of us have to school campuses.…

In High School we were sadly not taught about the May 4th shooting and as a High School history teacher that is something that I want to teach my students because it is such a big thing. At DKS is the first time I actually heard the story. A boy was very knowledgeable on the topic. I was told that the US guardsmen shot and killed 4 people and 1, a girl, was simple walking to class. He told us that prior to this date that there was ruckus due to a biker gang and they threatened a guardsmen and the guardsmen thought it was one of the students, however, at the May 4th center I learn that the guardsmen weren’t even at Kent state yet until after that date.…
Attorney General Kamala D. Harris claims the new laws that fall under “assault weapons”. She explains different weapons that can be considered a “assault weapon”: “A semiautomatic, center fire rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following: a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, a thumbhole stock, a folding or telescoping stock, a grenade launcher or flare launcher, a flash suppressor, a forward pistol grip” (Kamala D. Harris). Anything that can detach a magazine quick and easy without a “bullet button” that feeds ammunition into a fire arm illegal. Harris sets up the new state law for California in an organized fashion, where no misinterpretations can be made, at least for understanding the new general law towards “assault weapons”. She gives a definition of an “assault weapon” with a list following the definition, to make it clear towards what category of guns can be “assault weapons: Shotguns, Semi-Automatic, and…
Following recent events (involving multiple mass shootings and attacks) many people think that the laws on guns in the United States of America need to be much tighter. I am one of these people. At the moment, as soon as you cross the US border, you have the legal right to purchase yourself a fire arm for personal protection, sport and (apparently, in some unfortunate cases) carrying out an unreasoned mass shooting. This document serves to explain some of the holes in the American legal system. While my foremost problem is not with guns themselves, it is a fact that they are, in the first place, an inherent danger and owning them, in the first instance, causes more trouble than they’re worth.…
