Acting Versus Reality

Decent Essays
It goes without saying that this was a unique experience that forced us to take a task and that we do daily or often and observe it very carefully in order to explore the differences between acting and reality and how to unify the two. Taking a task as simple as making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or cleaning a fish tank and breaking it up into detailed steps was more difficult than I had imagined, but it forced me to put my every day life under the magnifying glass and understand how I do thing and how I change little details in my life in order to fit the situation of the day. To begin with, it was difficult to choose a two-minute task that I knew I could break down fairly easily to show the class that would fulfill all of the expectations

In the video, Linda Hammond, stated students, “…need opportunities that are well-structured to allow them to learn those skills and to try different aspects of it.” This was very accurate. Data collected from the formative assessment showed several areas that students did not have critical background knowledge. Students need opportunities in which they will be able to practice the skills they are lacking. Warm up class activities will focus on the skills students are lacking on a daily basis maximizing student learning opportunities.…

Before going into this class, I always thought culture was just part of your background and you grew up with it. I saw it as something that had to do with your family history. Which, in a way it does, but that 's not what culture is all about. I always love learning more about other cultures and other people in general. Culture is not only a part of your family background, but impacts your point of view and how you see things.…

Going back to a place I consider home, the memories of laughs and adventures flood in from past years. Parker and the lessons she provided were familiar to other schools that I have been to. Her lesson for today was focused around a SCOPE magazine play that was about sailors and submarines. To prepare them for this she went through what looked a lot like a “BuzzFeed” article (but for students) that talked about different types of fishes and then played two YouTube videos: one about a woman diving down into the depths using a submarine, and another that covers various facts about octopuses. Afterwards the students were allowed to either read the play in groups or on their own. All of her classes (both 7th and 8th grade) did this in order to help them prepare for…

Disconnected from and regardless of my responses within the application to other skills, I would like to mention a more tangible, real-life example of one epitome of my experiential achievement. Throughout middle school, I felt constrained by the lack of opportunities of any type. Entering high school, though, opened new doors to social and political engagement. Soon after starting 9th grade, I applied, and got accepted into, Student Senate.…

Ben, Jerry, and Me An arctic chill crept across my spine in time with the goosebumps demarcating my excitement as I flung the doors open, eyes roving the fluorescent freezer until they finally landed upon my treasure: the Tonight Dough. With my spoon as sword and the treadmill as shield, I sliced into pure euphoria, excavating chunks of ice cream then depositing their riches into my ravenous mouth. Though ice cream has always been a part of my life, the Tonight Dough was not always my delicacy of choice.…

Accomplishing a short term or long term goal in life can be very rewarding. It makes you feel as if you are one step closer to the ideal life you have planned for yourself. At the beginning of the ECCE 1121 Early Childhood and Education Care Practicum course at the Savannah Technical College, the class was given the assignment to identify and submit three objectives that I wanted to accomplish this term during the Practicum class. At the end of the term, we would have the task of writing a self-evaluation on how well we feel did in accomplishing these objectives.…

After arriving to Wood Middle School as I would on any other day, I walked into the bustling commons area and noticed a herd of students scattered into their separate cliques. However, what immediately caught my eye was the number of teachers and administrators who clearly looked flustered and distressed. I soon left the commons area and headed towards the library to figure what exactly was going on. Sure enough, there was a cluster of teachers gazing at the library’s television in utter disbelief over what would soon become known as “The Stock Market Crash of 2008”. Even though I was only in the 6th grade, I still had enough competence to realize that this was not an ordinary day in the stock market.…

I can't say that I am a man of many talents, but I have had interesting life experiences. One particular experience that has had a major role in my life was boot camp. Boot camp, or Basic Combat Training from the Army, put me through mental and physical stresses that people normally don’t get to experience. Having people shout at you for breathing incorrectly has an immense impact on how one perceives the world, for example. Although my mind has already started suppressing the memories of that most joyous occasion, its tempering has left traces that won’t disappear anytime…

Another perspective I gained from this is that I should always try to use layman terms to explain something complicated so as to make it easier for junior staff to understand. For example, to demonstrate a complicated method of troubleshooting component, I can use a self-drawn circuit diagram that is broken down and easier to understand. The ability to rephrasing a complex solution in a simple manner requires deep understanding of the problem and solution. This requires critical and creative thinking. In the future, I will constantly incorporate this skill in my future lesson plans of my training…
