I was working a midnight shift at the entry control point with my partner on Security 12, patrolling the F-4 ramp, conducting a 100 percent hands-on “Restricted Area Badge” check. Anyone requiring access to any restricted area had to display the proper credentials prior to gaining access. During random points in our shift we were directed to conduct checks to ensure only authorized personnel gained access to these areas. After conducting checks for thirty minutes, my partner and I headed over to Security 33’s post.…
In the 1900’s Jared Sidney Torrance, a real estate developer and other investors wanted to create a mixed industrial residential community in the south of Los Angeles. The resulting town was named after Torrance in 1912. In September 11,1917 Torrance high school was opened under the jurisdiction of the Los Angeles unified school district. It was a combination of a high school and elementary school to accommodate areas of post World War One growth such as iron and petroleum industry as well as the pacific railway expansion. Today Torrance high school is one of the oldest high schools in California.…
JROTC or the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps was a program established in 1916 by the National Defense act. JROTC is usually in high school but can be found in some middle schools. The reason for this program is to instill a sense of patriotism, self-reliance, team building skills, and leadership skills. The program has been shown to have a great effect on students over the years and the benefits of this program have been proven over and over. Over the years though the program has seen many changes.…
Comparison of the Homeric Hymn to Apollo with Callimachus’ Hymn to Apollo reveals that Callimachus’ myth was composed centuries later. Although a writer may be directly influenced by previous writers’ accounts of the same myth, it is evident that Callimachus was not so influenced by the Homeric Hymn to Apollo in this work. Callimachus’ work’s difference in detail and length, mismatching etiologies, and lack of plot similarities all indicate an absence of a direct connection. Callimachus, an author of a later time, composes a Hymn to Apollo that is quite different from the Homeric version. One of the main differences is the difference in length with Callimachus’ version being substantially shorter.…
Aphrodite then quickly turned her Myrrha into a Myrrh tree. There was also a myth of the Argue of Persephone and Aphrodite over the Greek God Adonis. Aphrodite put baby Adonis in a chest and gave it to Persephone to watch over it. Persephone disobeyed Aphrodite and opened the chest. This lead to seeing Adonis, which was a lovely, beautiful baby, and then Persephone would not give the baby back.…
Suny Empire State College encompasses a unique variety of ways to pursue a college degree that is affordable. In 2008 I enrolled and began my undergrad studies, but my ultimate plan was to attain a bachelor’s degree. I had the flexibility of attending face to face study groups, online studies and independent studies all while being employed full time. Knowledge attained from course work in Religion, Human Development, Sociology and psychology have truly impacted how I view life.…
Women have struggled to be equal for over a century (Imbornoni, n.d.). Minority women have a steeper mountain to climb to reach equality. Women are able to demonstrate their abilities to provide equal contributions to employers. And, up to recently women have progressed in the armed forces by passing rigorous training to become the most elite in the United States Army. The opportunity to join the Rangers was only offered to men.…

More than three thousand years after its composition, Homer’s Odyssey is still celebrated for having captured two of the innumerable stories and poems that were passed on from generation to generation very much in the same way that amber petrifies a bug, preserving an ephemeral memory, a decision which could not have been any more fortunate in such a pivotal time as when those stories had already began to fade away into obscurity as something of the far, distant past. Homer beggins by assuming an in medias res. form of narrative, in which, ten years after the Trojan embroilment, in which many of the Achaens return to their home to find that most everything has remained the same as just when they had left off, but in the case of Agamemnon and…

The blacker the college, sweeter the knowledge. As kids, we see shows and movies such as A Different World and School Daze then imagine attending an HBCU being fun and adventurous. Not realizing and understanding the essence of having a place in the world where you can relate with people of different shades of melanin and personalities. The mission of an Historically Black College or University is to give blacks the opportunity of higher learning and allow them to graduate with multiple job lineups. From my perspective, an HBCU should make you feel more welcome than a PWI would, make you feel wanted and appreciated.…

They worshipped the gods that they believed appeared in human form, but had supernatural powers. The ILliad and Odyssey are the earliest surviving examples of Greek literature. They recorded man’s interaction with many gods and goddesses whose characteristics and appearances changed very little over the centuries that followed. Some of major…
