As I described briefly in the opening to my presentation, there are myriad things in Act 5 of Hamlet of literary import: Hamlet’s interaction with the gravediggers, Yorick’s mini-scene, and the scuffle between Hamlet and Laertes over Ophelia’s grave, to name a few from Act 5, Scene 1. However important these aspects are, they all have somewhat obvious significance to the rest of the play as a whole: The gravedigger and Yorick can be attributed to Hamlet’s questioning of death and human worth, while the Ophelia scene brings into question the power and significance of romantic and brotherly love, from the perspective of the play. However, the presence of Fortinbras in the ending of Hamlet has been something that has thrown me off since I first read the play in high school; so, for my presentation, I began with one main question: Why end Hamlet with a character as small as Fortinbras? I think after discussing with the class, and after my own critical analysis beforehand, I believe I know why Fortinbras…

Within act III scene II of Hamlet, Shakespeare gives his readers his opinion as to what makes a good play through another person. The person he gives his opinion through is the character of Hamlet. In this particular scene, Hamlet is giving instruction to the players, those who will be performing the play, on how they should conduct themselves as they perform the play for the public. The purpose of this play is for Hamlet to be able to tell if Claudius is truly at fault for the death of Hamlet’s father the previous king or not. Hamlet wanted to make sure that his actors knew how to best perform the play so that if Claudius was guilty of killing the deceased King Hamlet would be able to easily tell by his reactions.…

Scene 1- For scene one I would like to incorporate a scary, sickening environment. This scene will have a dark backdrop, with a moon on the top left hand corner. The lighting required for this scene will be a blue mixed with green and black tints of lighting along with a fog machine and sounds of groans and a bit of howling of wind to give the scene an ominous feel. The stage will have four actors upon a synthetic stone front faced platform giving the looking of a castle lookout. With the use of a holographic machine we have the ghost of the late King Hamlet appear realistic and floating off of the platform.…
