We all encounter things that can either build us for the better or break us. Compared to the modern day, many people shared hero like traits many individuals in the ancient Greek period encountered many obstacles, which they overcame and made them the hero. A hero is anybody that goes through a situation and come out stronger. The action one make and the attitude one portrait determine being a hero. Considering the differences between the times, both Achilles and spider Man shared similar and different qualities for instance, while they both were leaders, and very determined, however Spider Man did not let a tragedy affect him the way Achilles did. Throughout the Iliad Achilles went through many challenges in which he undergoes many changes. At the beginning of the Iliad, Achilles is perceived as very Immature, and spoiled because at the first sign of trouble, he went to his mother. In line 450 in the Iliad, quote Achilles “So sit down right by Zeus, clasp his knee, remind him of all that, so he’ll want to help the Trojans somehow, corner Achaeans by the sea, by their ships’ prows, have them destroyed, so they all enjoy their king”. (Book I) The fact that he wanted Zeus to help the Trojans shows that he only cared about himself. He was being selfish because regardless if his feeling was hurt, as a leader he should have thought about how his request would have affected his followers. However, his character shows more carrying because in book 19, he gave his friend Patroclus permission to go in the battle. Even though, he refused to fight in the war, he still cared about his warriors. in the ancient period every man lived by the warrior code and by refusing to fight in the battle, Achilles was portrait as a coward. In book 18, it shows Achilles torn apart because he got to a point where he just wanted a normal life instead of worrying about being a leader
