The story of Achilles is interpreted differently in these two sources, Madeline Miller, author of The Song of Achilles, saw the relationship between Achilles and Patroclus differently than the creator of the movie. One of the major differences between the two is that in the novel Achilles and Patroclus are lovers while in the movie they are not shown to be that intimate. Another major difference is the way in which they are told. A few important character connections and details were in the book that were left out in the movie. In the book, for example, Kim and Mia’s relationship wasn’t as detailed in the movie. It didn’t show their fight like it did in the book and all of their childhood between the two seemed to be missing from the movie. Mia and Kim had some important things that occurred in their childhood which I thought was important and should have been included in the movie. Her grandparents also weren’t in the movie as much as they were in the book.…

In the Argument between Achilles and Agamemnon, Achilles’ argument is more reasonable. Agamemnon should be able to give up his prize without much hesitation. Should his pride and his ‘prize’ be placed above the lives of his people? As the ruler of the kingdom, he should be able to place the lives of his people over his pride. That, in it’s own way, would be worth more faith and honor from his people than owning one woman.…

Lastly, there is a significant difference in the chemistry and feelings of love, at least that are portrayed in the book are nonexistent in the movie. One major aspect that plays a large role in book to movie adaptations is the screenwriter’s ability to transform the book. The screenwriter must be able to not only transform the book, but he must have the critical adaptability to make it successful. “This involves first distribution, then audience reception.”…

It seems an unfair view to expect a movie about a book to be exactly the same down to every single detail. Communities of fans will always find something wrong with a story, for it has “failed” to match expectation. Books are a place where someone can be dragged into the story and forget about everything else for a short while. Movies do the exact same thing, except it is seen as an easier way than books for a lot of people. Ignoring obvious differences (such as the fact that one is in picture form, and the other is in words), movies and books may not be so different after all.…
