he Shield of Achilles was made by Hephaestus who gave it to Achilles mother, Thetis, to carry to him. At first Achilles didn't want to participate in the war due to his differences with Agamemnon, but once he learned of his friend, Patroclus, falling under the sword of the enemy (Hector), he wanted to be back in the battle. Achilles original shield was stripped from his friend and taken by Hector as a form of victory. The new shield represented the earth, the heavens and the sea, and human civilization in the ancient world. It also depicts two cities, one basically at peace with men dancing and singing with brides marching through the streets. The other city portrays war " two men were wrangling about the blood-money for a man who had been
