Since I have received lots of help from others, I should pay it back by doing charity. I realize that my life story is not solely based on the popular American dream. The high-quality education in the US makes me heartily appreciate the opportunity that I have been given. The more grateful I am, the more concerned I become when I look around and see countless people suffering. It is not all about achieving my American dream or surviving this winner-takes-all game anymore, I, on the other hand, passionately want to know the reasons behind poverty and how I can make a difference. An enthusiasm of philanthropy is kindled in me. Although medical care has upgraded in the recent years, local hospitals and doctor’s practices in underprivileged countries are still below modern Western standards. I am determined to earn a degree in Chemistry to lay the groundwork for a career in medicine. Enthusiasm cannot turn stones into gold. I have a beautiful dream, yet I cannot promise to give what I do not even have yet. Currently, education is my most effective long-term investment. However, as a foreign student, I am ineligible for any federal loan, or work-study program. Consequently, there is a very minimal amount of jobs and financial help that I am qualified for. My student visa’s restrictions also limit the working hours, and the type of work that I can do. As a result, scholarships are my main financial resources. Personally, I deserve this scholarship because I was not born with a golden spoon in my mouth. During my parents’ teenage years, they suffered from deprivation, which was an inevitable aftermath of the Vietnam War. More than anyone else, they deeply understand the importance of money in modern society. As a result, one of their indispensable lessons for me is to appreciate the value of money. I know how to save and spend money wisely. As mentioned, I would not successfully become who I am today without the tremendous help from others. Therefore, my motivational goal is to resiliently and relentlessly strive to match the expectations from my supporters, which I perceive as the best bay to show
