The last meeting, I was a part of was the achievement team meeting, it discusses the need for special Ed services. Upon request of the parents, the special Ed team will meet up with the teachers and discuss the student’s behavior and how their services may benefit the student. For instance, a student’s parents were asking for services because the student was not focusing in class and she was starting to add a long “a” in the beginning of her words. As the teacher was discussing the student’s educational performance they noted that she was scoring average for all her test and from an educational standpoint she could not receive services. Even though the student’s parents wanted speech and OT services to address the added “a” sound and attention deficit, they could not help because the student was progressing at an average rate. …show more content…

The American Occupational Therapy Association used WCPA on a group of adolescent students who dropped out of school once but were now thinking about re-entering the school system. They found the information provided by WCPA to be valuable to OT’s as well as the teachers in the classrooms with understanding how to increase student needs and strengths. Although there are variables that need to be considered that may influence some populations, overall, this system is simple, diverse, accurate and could become a favorite of OT/OTA’s looking to have Performance Based Assessment…

The client’s thoughts and feelings It was observed that in the session, Gemma sounded stressed as she often sighed throughout her session before speaking. However, as the session progressed, it sounded as though when Gemma further disclosed her experiences, she perhaps felt relief to be able to talk to someone about her experiences. According to Chenoweth and McAuliffe (2005), trust and building rapport in a relationship is fundamental, and I believe Gemma was able to disclose her story with me because she perhaps felt comfortable with the session and myself.…

In regards to providing a Free Appropriate Public Education to students with disabilities I feel like my district, Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools does an excellent job. First and foremost, we are an inclusive district and provide services for all students regardless of a disability and offer a continuum of services throughout the district. For instance, each elementary and middle school has a specialty so that one or two types of disabilities are serviced in a particular building. This allows for all services to be covered including specific programs for the intellectually disabled, mentally disabled, those students with autism, and finally students diagnosed with emotional disturbances.…

Compliance: SCHS does a great job in terms of compliance of the laws and mandates. This is evident from the interview with the Lead EC teacher who described the processes and procedures SCHS uses to ensure this. IEP records are not shared with anyone who is not directly in contact with these students. They stay locked in a closet and the EC teachers, principals, and guidance counselors are the only ones who have access to these outside of that closet. All teachers receive a full copy of the IEP with goals and modifications.…

In order to establish and maintain collaboration during Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, Cheryl and Ken receive the IEP ahead of time for review and suggestions on what goals to add, change, or delete for Jake. This allows Cheryl and Ken to feel active and involved in their son’s education. The school also allows Jake’s in-home therapist to attend these meetings as well so that all professionals can be involved and working as a unified front to provide the best possible care and opportunities for Jacob. This also allows the IEP goals to be implemented in the home setting, not just at school, especially the goals related to occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy. Educators play a large role in supporting children with disabilities.…
