Many students suppress they’re in an achievement gap until they are too far behind. Falling behind can be easy but noticing and getting out isn’t so easy, but it’s not impossible. If students fall into an achievement gap they become unable and unwilling to continue their education and degree. Students can gain help from teachers and other students when they don’t feel confident enough in completing their degree. I was lucky enough to realize I was falling behind before I got too far into my first year of college. I learned the ways of falling into an achievement gap, and it helped me avoid falling too far behind. When my scores come back low on homework or quiz it makes me lose confidence and, concisely causes me to not focus as hard because I feel like it won’t make a difference. Students are less likely to feel motivated or focused on a subject if they are doing badly in it. When I feel like I don’t do well at something I look for an alternative, along with many other students who lose confidence, we look for a way to avoid the areas we’re bad at. This can cause a student to not want to continue on the course and could even cause them not to continue their education. Confidence gives motivation to students to finish their degree and move forward. How I manage to stay confident is by taking my time studying, things I don’t understand, and reread notes, and noticeably did better in note taking and on homework. I have definitely lost confidence that I will do good in a class because of a low quiz or homework grade. I have friends who have almost dropped out of college due to low grades the only way around it is to move on. I review what I missed ask why if I don’t understand and study the things I miss. I know this has improved my grades and caused me to focus more. When students lose confidence they have to keep trying and not skip over
