In order to test our null hypothesis, we created an experiment that allowed us to observe the behavior of Acheta domesticus (domestic crickets). For this experiment, we set up a choice chamber that would contain lettuce on one side and banana on the other. The transparent chambers allowed us to observe the crickets without disturbing them and without misplacing them. This type of observation would be considered focal sampling as we were observing the behavior of one cricket at a time for 2 minutes. We conducted a total of ten trials, through which the sex of the cricket(female), the number of crickets (1 at a time), the banana, the lettuce, and wax paper were all kept constant.
