Achaia or Achaea was a historic region of Greece located on the northern coast of Peloponnesus and south of Corinth. Leading into the 4th Century, 12 Achaean cities of Northern Peloponnesus organized the Achaean League for protection against the raids filtering down from the Gulf of Corinth. After the death of Alexander the Great the league was dismantled and reformed in 208 BC. Upon the destruction of Corinth in 146 BC the league dismantled once again forming the whole of Greece under the name Achaia and become one half of the Roman Province with Macedonia (http://www.keyway.ca/htm2003/20030724.htm).
