In my opinion, neither The Achaeans nor the Trojans won the Trojan War. Most literature insinuates that the Achaeans won. However; he Greeks (Achaeans) and the Trojans both had extreme loses. On the Trojan side they lost Hector and on the Achaean side they lost Achilles. Both sides were put into agony during and after the war. Many brother, sons, husbands, children, and fathers were lost during the Trojan War. In the film, Paris handed off the Sword of Troy to Aeneas, who seemed to be just an extra character. Aeneas had no major part in the plot line other than that small scene. Paris said something along the line of “as long as the sword is in the hand of a Trojan, the Trojans have a future.” Later on in Aeneas’ life, he used that sword in

Following six consecutive road games, the Pirates returned home to wrap up non-league play with match ups against Douglas and Siuslaw. On Friday the 16th the boys took on the Douglas Trojans in a tough battle behind a rowdy home crowd. Despite holding a four point lead heading into half, the Pirates ultimately fell with a 52-47 loss. A defensively sluggish third quarter doomed the boys as the Trojans took a five point advantage that they maintained for the rest of the game. Crucial turnovers and missed free throws were blatant contributors to the defeat, although Coach Rhodes recognized these factors as treatable issues.…

The Trojan War was an epic siege between Greek and Trojan forces that occurred within the Bronze Age, spanning through the 12 and 13 century, approximately 1250 BCE. Homer's Iliad is a poetic version of the events, incorporating historical and mythical aspects into the epic poem. Directed by Wolfgang Petersen, the 2004 film, supposedly "inspired" by the text of the Iliad, excluded the religious notions of the time period and was instead an over-dramatized war movie that altered historical facts. Because the historical facts of the Trojan War are based on the "myths" of the Iliad, it is difficult to record the events with total accuracy, leaving much of the history up to these written myths. Some historical facts presented in the film are as follows: Achilles fought for the Greeks but was unpredictable and moody (refusing to fight after Agamemnon took away his slave and killing Hector after the death of his cousin, Patroclus, who died in battle dressed as Achilles).…

Throughout history, there have been many wars where it can be argued who won. During the times of the ancient world, one of the biggest arguments that can be made is whether Athens or Sparta and her allies won the Peloponnesian Wars. While there is substantial evidence to prove either side won the war, there is more information supporting Sparta and her allies as the victors of the Peloponnesian Wars. Sparta and her allies won the Peloponnesian Wars due to the strength of the Spartan military, poor Athenian choices made in battle, and the physical state of Athens by the end of the war.…

In Greek literature, mythological gods play very centric roles in the plot. The Iliad and Medea are of no exception; however, the gods in the Iliad by Homer constantly interfere while the gods in Medea by Euripides remain passive. In the Iliad, the goddess Athena acts on behalf of the Achaeans multiple times. In Medea, the gods allow Medea to commit horrible acts and do not intervene (on or against her behalf) until the very end. In both works, the relationships between the gods and humans expose the frailty of human nature.…

At some point another “library” of tablets may be uncovered in the western region of Anatolia and answer more of our questions, but until that time, it’s better to talk about the Luwian, Hittite, and context which we do know a great deal about, the treaties, wars, and kings that we do know about and leave the “Trojan War” as an extraordinary icon in the Western Tradition. The Trojan War was highly influential on our way of viewing ourselves and our history, but not quite “history” itself, but rather something greater and less…
