2.5 grams of chitosan was added in 100 ml of 2% acetic acid solution. The added chitosan in acetic acid was dissolved by stirring it continuously. It was then poured into the petri plate and put in the incubator at 70°C for 48 hours. The 2N sodium hydroxide were put in dry films for about 30 minutes at ambient temperature. The wet film from the glass plate were peeled off using sterilized plastic spoon. It was then washed with distilled water for 4 times to rinse off NaOH solution. After washing, the films were dried at 40°C for 20 hours in the

General procedure: One equivalent of spacer was coupled using 2.4 equivalents of inhibitor, 0.18 equivalents of copper sulfate, 0.36 equivalents of (+)-sodium-L-ascorbate, in a mixture of 10% H2O in DMF, 24 mL/mmol spacer. The mixture was placed in the microwave for 30 minutes at 80oC Pro6 Spacer (10) (30 mg, 0.036 mmol) and 18 (36 mg, 0.087 mmol) were dissolved in 778 µL DMF. Copper sulfate (1.62 mg, 0.006 mmol) and sodium-L- ascorbate (2.57 mg, 0.013 mmol) were dissolved in 86 µL H2O. The two solutions were combined in a microwave tube and put in the microwave for 30 minutes at 80oC. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure.…

    5. CONCLUSIONS Dry waste prawn shell converted to chitin and chitosan by using 3.5% of NaOH and 1N HCl with the temperature range from 20 oC-120 oC in the process of deprotinized, demineralized , decolourized and deacytilated .CMC was synthesized by carboxymethylation, as some of the –OH group of chitosan were substituted by –CH2COOH groups. Carboxymethyl chitosan was used as an adsorbent for the removal of copper from the wastewater. The removal efficiencies of copper were affected by different parameters such as pH, adsorbent dosage, temperature, contact time, initial metal ion concentration, anion and cation.…

Goals The goal of the lab was to investigate the properties and structure of an unidentified compound that was discovered in a local landfill. The group was called in to help determine the chemical and physical properties of the compound so we can let the people of the town know so it can be taken care of properly with or without further precautions to be taken. Another goal of this project was to devise the synthesis of the unknown compound. Experimental Design In order to determine the correct identity of our unknown compound, we first started with a couple preliminary tests, which include physical state and smell.…

Introduction: The purpose for this experiment is to carry out the dehydration of 2-methylcyclohexanol, which undergoes an E1 mechanism by following Saytzev’s rule to form different product such as 1-methylcyclohexanol, 3-methylcyclohexanol and methylenecyclohexane. The reaction can be dehydrated using sulfuric acid and H3PO4. The dehydration mechanism occurs in several steps like – 1. Converting the OH group into a better leaving group that is deprotonating with H3PO4. 2.…

Observations or reactions: Separation of the basic component: When 2ml of 3M HCl was added to the mixture of Benzoic acid, Ethyl 4-aminobenzoate, 9-Fluorenone, diethyl ether, two layers were created, an organic yellow top layer and a clear aqueous bottom layer. The clear layer (basic layer) was extracted and placed into a container where 6M NaOH was add to the solution. The addition of NaOH made the solution basic, and created white flakes in the solution. The white flakes were separated by placing them into a Hirsh funnel filtration, the sold flakes were pure ethyl 4-aminobenzoate. After a week the powder was weighted using analytical balances melted with a mel temp.…

With a P200 micropipette, 60 µL of lysozyme was added into the suspension to break the cell walls of the bacteria. Every five minutes during a 15-minute incubation period in 30˚C water, the contents of the tube were mixed with a pipette. After incubation, the bacteria were placed in the freezer for 15 minutes at -20˚C. After removing the tube from the freezer, it was left to thaw then vortexed for 30 seconds. The tube was then placed into a centrifuge for 10 minutes to separate the ruptured bacterial cell walls.…

Additionally, on the basis of types of monomer present in the polymeric chain, PHAs can be a homopolymer containing only one type of hydroxyalkanoate as the monomer unit like P(3HB), and P(3HHx). When more than one types of hydroxyalkanoate as monomer units are exist, they are often called heteropolymer such as poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate), P(3HB-co-3HV), poly(3-hydroxyhexanoate-co-3-hydroxyoctanoate), P(3HHx-co-3HO) and poly-(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3- hydroxyhexanoate), P(3HB-co-3HHx).The microorganism used in production process and the growth conditions conclude the molecular weight of these polymers that ranged between 2×105 and…

The lab instructor issued out a test tube labeled with letter ‘I’, which consisted of two unknown bacteria, Gram-positive or Gram-negative that were streaked from a pure culture. Sterile techniques were followed while performing precise instructions as stated in the referenced Laboratory Manual. Example 1: The first procedure performed was done by isolating a pure culture from the mixture onto a solid Trypticase soy agar (TSA) media. Sterile technique was done by flaming the loop until it turned red to ensure that there were no current bacteria on the loop avoiding contamination followed by rapidly flaming the neck of the test tube to prevent the entry and contamination of unwanted microbes.…
