1. I believe all waste should be disposed of safely in an area relative to where it was produced. However, this is rarely the case. The rationale is that sending our trash elsewhere, particularly electronics, is a plus for the receive country because it gives them an opportunity to salvage valuable metals and scrap parts that can be used to fuel their economies growth. However, in the long run many of these companies don’t engage in safe recycling or trash disposal practices and are exposing people to toxic materials directly during the recycling process and indirectly as the materials seep into the ground and into the water supply. The receiving country’s people health and environment is further exposed when the materials are burned and smoke filled with carcinogens is released into the air. I am not sure if the amount of metals and spare parts is enough to offset the rising health care costs of people becoming sick in these areas.

Unfortunately weakening environmental standards will promote economic growth as industries flock and flourish in areas where the costs of operating are cheaper. Some companies have been forced to close down as bankruptcy looms because the cost of environmental efficiency is too much for them to bare. So operating in areas where carbon taxes don’t have to be paid and factories are free to pollute and contaminate is more business friendly although not the most moral or ethical thing to do. In my opinion, weakening environmental standards to promote economic growth is not the best ethical practice however it will and has helped struggling economies in the short term and long term, especially if you don’t factor the cost of the impact to the environment into the equation over the long

According to the Financials, Unit #35 was given a credit (Acct #5200 Electric) of $12.00 in both September and October. I'm assuming it's for the use of the fan, but I could be wrong. Unfortunately, the guys Ed hired will do whatever he tells them to because they get paid for anything and everything they do...right or wrong. In my opinion, professional contractors should tell Ed how problems should be fixed and give him a bid.…

Reusability enhances composability by ensuring that the design is amendable for future utilization. Unfortunately, if users are ignorant of services then they will not be reused. Therefore, the service registry should be publicized and well design that can help clients identify and use the service that fits their needs. Furthermore, reusability is what allows a service to be composed by many others.…

Persico’s study is reportedly the first large-scale study of cognitive and developmental effects of living near Superfund sites. The study shows that Superfund cleanup has significant positive effects on long-term cognitive and developmental outcomes for children. Persico reports that the Superfund program would pay for itself in 38 years “in terms of reduced special education costs for specific learning disabilities alone” (Persico, 2016) Recently, President Trump proposed over a 30% decrease in funding for the EPA at a time when it is needed most. The Superfund budget specifically, would drop $330 million dollars.…

As if that weren’t enough, the richer countries get, the worse off the environment is. Production causes waste, and for a company trying to minimize cost, using alternative fuel, waste control, etc, is not their top priority. It is insane how many people die because of the environmental hazards of their everyday life, and an expanding economy, and trade, further damages the…

The government of China created the Beijing environment Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau to reduce the city's amount of air pollution before the 2008 Olympics, but long-term effects were not made. In India progress can't be made because their government is afraid that it would slow down their economic growth. Economically, the country of India depends on the profit made from transportation and industry, and if they try to clean up the air by cutting back on those services it would lead to a weak economy. If one country is at their weakest it is easier for others to take over and India could be trying to avoid this. India and China have governments not willing to fix the pollution problem because they don’t want their economic growth to progress slowly.…

Our society has the huge problem of not taking advantage and not benefitting from the dumps wasting with a great valuable deal of them. Lars Eighner makes me reconsider my wasting behavior and makes me think about how much we are losing useful dumps. We consume the dumps as waste instead of recycling them and making benefit of it. In addition, a lot of money could be saved through recycling. For example, factories could save a huge amount of money on manufacturing papers, toilet rolls, and cans by recycling them again and again.…

Dumps around the World, which is discussed in Box 3.4, in Clarke’s text Health, Illness and Medicine in Canada, analyzes how dumps reiterate the hierarchical level and different statuses that are present in today’s society. Westernized countries ship their garbage to less industrialized countries where it stays while it decomposes. The amount of garbage decomposing at one specific dump causes those living in close proximity to be exposed to an exuberant amount of toxic chemicals and toxic fumes. Some individual has the luxury of having a job that offers benefits such as healthcare, while others have jobs that constantly put them at risk for diseases, infections, and possible accidents. Many also have the luxury of knowing that they will be…

Second, third world countries are not any less human than first world countries. Third, the harms of continuing to use, sell or produce those products are both harmful for the people and the environment. Another issue that arises from the dumping of products is that people in first world countries, especially those driven by greed, don’t seem to value the life of poor people. There is a lack of respect for a person who is poor and has the disadvantage of living in a third world country. Even though there is still danger and damage in third world countries, companies shouldn 't try to make it worse by dumping, they should instead be helping and making the world a safer and toxic free…

Throughout history capitalists have tended to focus on the short term gains rather than how their actions will effect them, as well as others, over the long term, and when it comes to the environment it is no different. The valorization of capital both relies on and affects the environment in a countless number of ways. It relies on the environment through the externalization of environmental costs of production, while at the same time it effects the environment by depleting natural resources and habitat degradation. Globalization and the industrial revolution, historically, have not been kind to the environment. At first technology made the impact capitalism has on the environment even worse.…
