Personal Narrative: Multi-Color Internship

Improved Essays
At the beginning of this journey I thought majoring in accounting would be the perfect major for me. Therefore interning at Multi-Color Corporation, I thought would be the perfect opportunity. Multi-Color is a label company that prints over 10 million labels a day. There are over 45 different plants all around the world and the Scottsburg plant usually produces the most sales. The accounting department basically keeps the company running. Without the accounting department bills would not get paid or bills would not get mailed out for the customers to pay. At Multi-Color there are four main accountants: Accounts Payable (Melissa Campbell), Accounts Receivable (Tiffany Lowe), Cost Accountant (Jeremy Hafer), and Accounting Coordinator (Shari Schmidt). Some of the tasks we decided would be good for me to do at the beginning of my internship would be to learn the AP Process, AR Process, Job Cost Process, and lastly learn how to close jobs. Over my 13 weeks of being at my internship, I learned a lot of useful information that will tremendously help when I start taking accounting classes in college. Some of the everyday tasks …show more content…
For example, the things I learned in my accounting class were very useful. Learning about debits and credits really helped going into my internship. Throughout my accounting class, one thing my teacher always said was, “accounting in a classroom is different than accounting in a business”. After having my internship I really see that now. Today since we have so much technology the computers do a lot of the accounting side of things. For instance, a company no longer has to fill out a journal, the computer fills out everything for them. Another class that really helped me throughout my internship was preparing for college and careers was a big advantage. While I may not have used many of the skills for actual accounting it helped to know how I should act in a workplace

law firm internship. An agonizing few days passed as I waited for a reply, and I was ecstatic to learn that I had been chosen for the internship. No words could explain how excited I was but the smile that filled my face said it all. At this internship, I built upon what I learned at Hyde Square Task Force and developed more confidence and determination to succeed in a professional environment. Not only did I take Shakespeare, writing, public speaking, civil rights and art classes, but I also worked in an office, participated in community service events, and visited colleges, which all helped me explore and adapt to different ambiances of the work…

During my internship experience, I learned a lot of things that I thought I knew but are misconstrued on. With that being said, I know everything must be done in decent order or this will cause chaos and lead to confusion. I also learned everything takes patience and is very time- consuming. I became frustrated, so many times and just wanted to give up, but I had to remind myself that hard times are going to come and everything is going to work out. Many times I sat on my bed crying because it seems like everything piled on me at one time. During this experience, I learned, obstacles are going to come, but I have to accomplish them to be successful.…

I have done my fall internship at the same school but during the day. I feel that there is a lot I can do to support the students both academically and emotionally. During the first meeting with the counselor she expressed that being bilingual and bi-cultural will help. I know that there are not many opportunities to talk or have sessions with students, since they don’t have elective classes where I can see them, but I will try my best to be flexible with their schedules. I found out that they have a student government association, so I will try to be involved in their activities,…

I think the course that I utilized the most in my internship was Program Design and Administration (456). I caught myself doing certain things that I shouldn’t be doing. For example, using opinions in my documentation. For instance, saying something is “appropriate” is an opinion because what is appropriate for one person might be inappropriate for another person. I think Facilitation Techniques course came in handy during my internship because in a nursing home setting it can be easy to get stuck in a routine and…

My life is devoid of color I think to myself as I shuffle down the crowded streets of New Jersey. I've been living 8 years as a teenager and what have I done that could be on a tv show or in the newspaper. Hell the people on modern family are more exciting than me. I'm only suffocating myself thinking about this but I can't help it. I need something, but I can't put my finger on it. The more I think about this the more bland what I see seems. Every building in this city is brown or gray. Every melancholy street is filled with the same grey men in grey suits shuffling to work. I can't tell if I lost the color or if the world lost it. Either way it makes my days increasingly depressing. I start to hear lyrics forming in my head for my next song…

I’ve been shown with this experience how important it is for me to keep working at my people skill, that my ability to efficiently communicate is the bases for success with a sales job like selling flooring or lighting fixtures. This internship has helped me grow as a person and gain confidence. My favorite part of my internship was when Cozette and I were working with a client on a new construction job. The client brought in a completed floor plan, and came to select finishes and cabinetry. As we were walking through the floor plan we discussed the layouts of the bathrooms and kitchen. They were poorly laid out, without proper clearance, and the client was interested in having the space be wheel chair accessible. Cozette gave me the opportunity to draw up a new layout for the bathrooms. I got to space plan actual spaces and work with the needs of the clients including; closet space, a hidden toilet, a make-up counter, and an ironing board. I developed several layouts and spoke with Cozette about the solutions I came up with and last I heard she was going to implement one of the designs that I came up with into the client’s house. I enjoy problem solving and space planning the most out of all the aspects in this field. That is why I felt that I want to do what Cozette does for a living more than Eydie. I want to do more than help clients select finishes and do paper work all day. I want to create functional…

“Internships have been described as a bridge between the theory of the classroom and the world of practice” (Nevett 1985, cited in Gault, J, Redington, J and Schlager, T. 2000. p.3) as they expose students to the working environment, allowing them to apply their knowledge to real life situations therefore testing their abilities in a different manner to classic academic exams. In this essay I will evaluate the benefits and explore some possible negatives that work experience can have on an individual’s future career in order to decide…

The consciousness that finally all of the accounting material stored in my brain has a meaningful purpose, other than to pass my required classes is exhilarating. Being able to convert theoretical skills into practical skills is beyond astonishing for me. Participating under the supervision of Elizabeth Rubio, who counts with a master’s degree in accounting, was a complete privilege. As acting CFO at Frontier Foods & Cold Storage Inc. Ms. Rubio guided me, very patiently, through several processes and procedure. A week of training prior to beginning my official internship was offered in order to adapt myself into…
