According to Dale Carnegie’s concept of leadership, a leader is a team player who helps to inspire a team towards set goals. I was able to witness a practical application of this leadership approach when I last volunteered for community service at a homeless shelter. I barely recognized the administrator because he almost behaved like the rest of us. He would always take part in the community outreach and other activities like any other team member ready to undertake whatever duty he would find (Carnegie, 2011).

The firm used the closed-door management style where the management never interacted with the rest of the staff. Orders and instructions were sent from above without staff involvement. Many of the members were not amused. I would recommend an open door and Laissez-Faire management approach. Employees feel appreciated when they are included in the business process and the decisions of the management (Wlodarczyk, 2011).
Question 5
a) The two barriers in communication I have witnessed in m organization include managers showing lack of attention and treatment of proposals from the juniors as irrelevant. The staff responds to this by keeping their comments amongst themselves. The members murmur about issues quietly (Fielding & Fielding, 2005).
b) My freezers include use of jargons and distraction. When I use these freezers, others don’t follow through with my ideas because of misinformation. I will improve them by learning simple language and by paying attention to my communication.

The leader would then use this resource to guide the employee behavior and thinking towards the realization of organizational goals. His lecturer and the course materials have made me realize that I can leverage my emotional intelligence to effectively lead and motivate a team. Emotional intelligence enables me to use my emotions for the benefit of my team.
