It is a great pleasure to recommend Rachel Sitasz for admission to the Edward Hospital Student Volunteer Program. She is one of the most empathetic, kind, and exceptional humans I have encountered in my 14 years of teaching. I teach Rachel in my 8th grade advanced ELA class. Her academics, character, innate curiosity, intrinsic motivation, ethical standards, and unwavering desire to give back, have put Rachel in a class of her own. In fact, for the first time in over 25+ years, the eighth-grade team created a brand new end-of-the-year award for our graduation awards assembly.…
Goal 1: Alex will improve his academic performance. • Alex’s mother appeared tired when the QP met with the family for a session. • Alex’s mother stated, “I believe the children will attend Dillard Elementary, Dillard Middle, and Middle Creek, but I didn’t look it up I am going by what was told to me.” • Alex’s mother listened as the QP, Alex’s younger sister will be going to Yates Mill Elementary instead of Dillard Elementary. • Alex’s mother commented, “The social worker was worried about Alex’s brother going to a year around middle school because no one will be able to watch him when he tracked out.”…
October 10, 2015 To Whom It May Concern: We are a group of students from Western Christian that are actively involved in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Club. This October the STEM Club is holding a competition to build a trebuchet that will be capable of launching pumpkins across the football field. This project requires the use of Engineering and Mathematics.…
They require faster-paced classes and a more challenging curriculum, since they have the ability to process and learn information faster than their peers. Secondly, these students need time to work and learn with others who learn and work at the same pace as them. This helps with the academic, intellectual, emotional, and social growth of the individual. Being an AIG student affects the student, their parents, their teachers, and the school system as well. Students take pride in being considered gifted, and work hard for the title, but sometimes it can be overwhelming.…
I volunteered at Jack Jouett Middle School for the eighth-grade AVID program. In the classes, I helped students go through the AVID tutorial process. I functioned as a guide who coached the students through a Socratic process to understand points of confusion from their core classes, and then through collaborative work to understand the steps needed to clarify their point of confusion. All students in the AVID class apply to be in the program. They must have average to high test scores with a C to B+ grade point average.…
The areas of concern in respect to abuse and neglect in A.E.’s life may only be prevented further by his microsystem becoming adjusted to new ideas and ways of helping A.E. along with his family. The plan I have devised should help in the prevention of abuse and neglect to A.E. because he will have learned ways to communicate and socialize with others like his grandparents, peers and other adults in his life. A.E. will learn to be able to control meltdown to the best of his abilities with the proper guidance of teachers and grandparents. As long as A.E.’s family does implement the strategies in the home as done in the school, A.E.’s life will get easier and better.…
If in America we were to designate a “National Living Treasure,” Ron Clark would fit the description. Ron has a unique style of teaching not only students, but teachers as well. His inspiration to inspire children to learn is phenomenal. “Ron Clark was born on January 1, 1972. He graduated from East Carolina University in 1994,” (Famous Birthdays).…
SPED 5365 Instructional Processes with Exceptional Children (Fall 2014) SPED 5365 Instructional Processes with Exceptional Children equips students with a “competency in developing educational strategies for the remediation, amelioration, or compensation of exceptionality as it interferes with achievement or adjustment in school” (Lamar University, 2014, p. 1). I learned many practical strategies for teaching special education students from reading our assigned text, Strategies for Teaching Learners with Special Needs by Polloway, Patton, Serna, and Bailey (2013). I enjoyed completing my simulation case study…
The beginning of Chapter 3 lays out the three main factors that are associated with the relationship between exceptional parents and the classroom. These parents over the years have provided many beneficial changes because they would advocate for their children 's’ disabilities. Educators also seek parental involvement because studies show that a student’s grades tend to improve when the parents are actively involved with helping their student academically at home. The positive results that come from both statements above links to the judicial mandates that require parents to be informed and involved with their student’s education. The goal once again is to make sure these students have as much resources as possible to help them learn the curriculum.…
For the research project for SPED 771, I am interested in continuing my research on reading comprehension. I will focus my research for this assignment on the reading comprehension overview. I have numerous articles I found while researching reading comprehension strategies that I believe will be beneficial. For example, I found a numerous articles detailing the connection between spoken language and reading comprehension which I did not include in my original RLO. I believe this information will add depth and substance to enhance the reading comprehension strategy investigation RLO.…
Being born to and raised by immigrant parents, I observed a daily desire to give me all that they didn’t have and provide pathways for me to follow my dreams. I gained a respect for hard work as well as an ideology of looking out for those around me. The sacrifices they took to send me to private school and ensure that I do well in life motivates me in my plans for the future. It is their inability to live their lives as they pleased and follow their dreams that inspires me to attend and graduate from an institution in which all those attending strive in their fields of study. Due to their dedication, I want to succeed in life and provide a better life for both myself and my family, allowing them to live the rest of their lives without worry, as well as making a difference in the world around me.…
Parents and teachers are invited to review her IEP and give any suggestions about her case, although Parents can agree or disagree on any decision and make changes with her placement. Becoming a teacher is a career path I came across while working for the Realizing Amazing Potential (R.A.P.) before and after school program. In my undergraduate program I always knew I wanted to working with children, but it was a challenge for me to choose one career path I felt my work would make a difference. The defining moment for my career was the passion I found working with special need students, and the hard work to help them succeed academically. Being part of the education growth for students with special needs helped me find the career path I fell in love with, and knew I wanted to continue to advance my education in the field. The passion of helping students with special needs is a career I love and allows me to want to continue…
As I began this class in January my definition of curriculum was based on the academic coursework teachers use to instruct the information. Now my definition of curriculum is anything that falls under the auspice of the school that includes coursework, classroom arrangement, instruction, assessment, student engagement, and community involvement. My perspective is curriculum is what students learn in and out of the school. We need to teach students to become learners and problem solvers for the 21st century. I currently work at The Academy at Penncrest High School through the Simon Youth Foundation.…
