When a person is intrinsically motivated to do something, the desire emanates from within. Extrinsic motivation, on the other hand, involves completing a task for an external reason. By encouraging children through rewards, their intrinsic motivation is destroyed. When the focus of an activity becomes gaining a reward, intrinsic motivation is reduced.…

One of the main literacy sponsors growing up was my mom. She was a three grade teacher until I was born. As I grew up she made sure I was reading a book and not wasting all my time watching tv. When I was still learning how to read chapter books my mom would sit on the couch with me and read for at least forty minutes every day so that I grew my read and vocabulary skills. On car rides, weather it was long or short, or if I was just sitting at the baseball field watching my brother play she always made me bring a book with me.…

Hypothesis Ms. Mundatuchundayil or also referred as Ms. M teaches second grade at St. Vincent de Paul. I have been observing this class for about seven months about every Wednesday. This is a Catholic setting where I had to attend Mass and was allowed to talk about religious views so it’s different than most practicums I hear about in class. From my observations, I hypothesize that Ms. M focuses on cultural responsive, DAP, and children’s behavior in order to manage and organize the classroom. Cultural responsive involves poverty, guidance, and linguistic competence which means interplay of genes, development, culture, and experience that defines common humanness and individual personality (Gartrell, 2014).…

Battle of the books, spelling bees, and English classes were my favorite pastimes in grade school. Other children dreaded completing summer reading and literature studies, but I looked at reading…
