The accelerated nursing program at University of Wisconsin-Madison caught my eye online. Previously, I have researched accelerated nursing programs around the country and, to my disappointment, did not find one at UW-Madison. This summer I was elated to find a new program starting at a university with a reputation for excellence. I understand the competitive nature of the nursing program at UW-Madison, which is why I am drawn to it.
I desire a nationally recognized nursing degree because I intend to go onto additional schooling to open up doors in healthcare leadership. Presently, I am unsure of which path would suit my career the best, however, I desire either a Doctor of Nursing Practice or a Doctor of Philosophy in nursing. UW-Madison’s

NPs are independent practitioners with prescriptive privileges, and are found in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, family and specialty practices, as well as in nursing homes. Additionally, and importantly, in these times of corporate driven medicine, NP’s can bill and be reimbursed for services rendered (McClelland, 2014). The four concepts of the nursing metaparadigm; health, person, environment, and nursing practice, overlap and combine to form the foundation for nursing knowledge, theory and practice at all levels including the advanced clinical practice level (Bender & Feldman, 2015).…
