It was after this meeting on September 5th that the Acadian people had learned that they would be removed from their land. Governor Charles Lawrence had sent a group of men to the church in Grande Pre to read aloud his message to them saying that “inhabitants may not have it in their power to return to this Province, nor to join in strengthening the French of Canada or Louisbourg: it is resolved that they shall be dispers'd among his Majesty's Colonies upon the Continent of America” . Sadly, what the Acadians had not learned at that moment in time is that many of them would be separated from their families as colonies were only able to take a certain number of people. Not only would families be separated, but many would not make the trip to the colonies alive. It is recorded that hundreds upon hundreds of Acadian people had died between leaving Nova Scotia and their destination amongst the thirteen colonies . Sadly, there are many reasons that these people could have died on their trip, which range from multiple diseases or starvation. Many Acadians who had survived the trip to the colonies had reflected on getting very little to eat on their journey. The government had apparently given orders that each people should be given “1 lb. Beef 2 lb. of Bread and five pounds of Flour each person per week, and you are to be accountable for what shall remain” .This shows that the Government was ultimately trying to get rid of the Acadians altogether.
