My reaction to Methods and Materials for Academic Literacy has been a positive one so far. I have enjoy preparing lesson plans that I will be able to utilize in my future classroom. It is very beneficial in my opinion since they will be useful later. I have not had much practice presenting a lesson or in my content area which is math. Also, being able to receive feedback on my lesson plan presentations has helped me. Before taking this class, I had not had much practice at writing a lesson plan. My professor didn't discuss how to do this and the template he provided what difficult to use. I like the Hunter …show more content…
I am becoming more confident and less nervous about getting up in front of a class of students. I know that it will be a different experience when the audience is middle or high school students who have not already learned or been exposed to the material I am teaching. Each presentation I prepare for in this class requires me to think about my future students and how I should plan to teach them a topic. I believe I am thinking more like an educator by the experiences in this class.
Another factor that has influenced my positive reaction to Methods and Materials for Academic Literacy is getting feedback from the other future teachers and my professor. I can reflect on the reactions and questions asked by them to improve my teaching. It has stuck with me that teaching is Iike giving a speech as Mr. Wonder has pointed out. I took speech online a couple semesters ago which unfortunately didn't give me the experience I needed. Taking Methods and Materials for Academic Literacy is like the speech class I never took. I am able to practice what I will be doing in the

Throughout the semester as a class we have read multiple forms of readings varying in style and meaning. The different types of readings were meant to enrich our minds of knowledge and shape our human experience. After reading some of the forms of literature, such as Walden and Civil Disobedience, A year of Magical Thinking and the Auto Biography of an Ex-Colored Man my mind has expanded to consider different parts of life. I think about the way I live my life and the things I do as a human being. The course as a whole has allowed me to expand my mind, think about different parts of life and nature that I would not pay attention to on a daily basis.…

I believe this course was very effective for students as it reflects the purpose of every assignment. Every assignment not only helped me to gain knowledge about different topics but also help me understand their meaning and how they reflect in our life. Ex. Learning different modes of writing and putting them into practice will allow me to be able to approach different subjects with an appropriate style. Although I had learned to use only academically credible sources before, I had become too lax and this class put me back on the right track of being aware. I have only done papers in APA format for the past two years, so this class was a nice refresher on MLA format. I think it’s important to be fluent in both; while in college you never know if different teachers will require a different format than others. Beyond improving my writing ability, this class achieved its critical thinking development goal as well.…
