Doing your own work and giving credit to others for their work is the bases of academic integrity. “When an individual is ego involved, the goal is to maximize the establishment and demonstration of high ability and to avoid the demonstration of low ability.” (Nicholls 1984). From this evidence it is easier to visualize why to do your own work because of the feeling of accomplishment. Competing in history fair in High School isn’t fun at all and is very easy to do only half the work yourself and the other half to plagiarize other’s work, but I decided to put full effort in it and in result received 2nd place. “About 75 percent of college students admit to cheating, suggesting that probably even more than three quarters of college students have done something against the rules to improve their grades.” (Buchmann, Cheating in College). Even this percentage probably isn’t accurate because of the fact that lots of people won’t admit or even believe that they are cheating. A good friend of mine regularly cheated in our Physics class and I knew about it, but never said anything because we were too close. He regularly got A’s on test and would brag about to but whenever it was brought up that he cheated he would completely deny it. Because he regularly cheated it wasn’t an accurate representation of his academic success but was a good representation of his character morally and personality
