Academic Integrity code Critical Analysis Students and Faculty at the University of North Florida are expected to be treated fairly, respect academic freedom, and behave with honesty and responsibility. The code is directed to all students and faculty and outlines how they should respond in any case academic misconduct. In addition, the code includes a list of possible violations and penalties that may result from academic misconduct. However, students are given the right to appeal these penalties if they disagree with them, by following an appeal procedure that is provided by the university. The word choice implemented for the code can be rather confusing in some instances, the code does not provide specific penalties for different circumstances, and relies on a generic process to be followed for every case. The purpose of the code is to enhance the learning process and to give students and staff an understanding of what is expected from them. Students as well as Staff shall benefit from the compliance of the integrity code, collaborating to the creation of a respectful, honest, mutual- benefit learning environment. Academic misconduct can result from several different actions that violate the academic integrity code. These Violations include Cheating, Fabrication and Falsification, Multiple Submissions, Plagiarism, Abuse of Academic Material and Complicity in Academic Dishonesty.
