Academic and Career Goals I am indecisive and do not know what I want to do with my life yet, so I am attending College of the Albemarle to continue my education as I figure out what I want to major in. While I figure out what I want to do, COA is close to home and much cheaper than going to a four-year school. I will have to start out and take the same classes no matter where I go, so why not do it close to home and save money in the process? I plan to go to College of the Albemarle for two years and then transfer to a four-year college and continue my education there.
I am only in my first semester in college and have already switched my major. Originally I wanted to start and get a degree in the arts because I love the fine arts, however getting a degree for teaching is appealing to me as well. I did not want to overload myself as a new college student I didn’t know how difficult college would be. By teaching the Color Guard at First Flight and being good friends with the band director at the high school I have begun to think teaching is something I’m interested. I babysit and I am around children a lot and I really enjoy being around kids, I have even had summer jobs as camp a counselor.
I enjoy the fine arts, history and English, and I have considered teaching all of those classes. I have also considered becoming a Montessori teacher. A girl I babysit goes to a Montessori during the day and just going to pick her up the whole environment is different and welcoming. Becoming a teacher is a way to positively impact children’s lives. By getting a teaching degree I can teach kids and even learn from them. As a teacher you can learn from your students as much as they learn from you. By getting a teaching degree I will be more qualified to teach

One day, I took my one and a half year old nephew to a place called Gymboree, a gym with play equipment to help teach the children how to do various activities. My sister suggested that I should come see him play and climb on the equipment during the lesson. One of the workers came to the front and started the first exercise by singing a song. My nephew clapped, screamed, and danced to show his excitement. As I watched the lesson director sing and encourage the children, I realized how much I enjoyed it and how much I wanted to be in the director's shoes.…

However, was not until very recently that I had any idea what I would want to teach. Through chance circumstances and opportunities, I was able to reconnect with my love for working with my hands. Challenging school work had taken up most of my freetime and motivation, so I sort of lost touch with it. That was before I happened to attend a summer camp, focusing on manufacturing skills, that opened up my eyes to some great new possibilities.
