Abusing Child Abuse

Children are suffering from this hidden abuse every day and don’t understand how to help themselves. ”Every year more than 3.6 million referrals are made to child protection agencies involving more than 6.6 million children. The United States has one of the worst records among industrialized nations – losing on average between four and seven children every day to child abuse and neglect” (National Children’s Alliance). In the 2013 national abuse statistics, it states “that children in the first year of their life had the highest rate of victimization. Of the reported child fatalities, just under 80% were caused by the child’s parents” (National Children’s Alliance). Child abuse is staring at younger and younger ages in children. Raising children is a very hard job, and it is one of life’s greatest challenges and often triggers frustration, especially if the parent is single and does not have support from family or friends. A major reason why parents may be abusing their children, is because the parent is lacking in parenting skills. Of course, there is no book on how to be a good parent, and many caregivers have never learned the appropriate skills for parenting. Most of the time, “parents whom abuse, have also been victims of child abuse when they were young, and it could be the only way they know how to raise their children” (Help Guide). The parent is so accustomed to this perspective of parenting and that they do not realize they are not only hurting the child physically, but mentally also. Parents whom are suffering from any of these actions can help themselves by seeking help. Parents can start learning how to rightfully discipline their child by learning what is age appropriate.
