In The Breathing House by Marcielle Brandler wrote the poem “Eden” is about a mother and daughter relationship that has not been accepted by her mother till birth. A personal example of this is my friend Susy. Susy was abused by her mother throughout her childhood, she will get verbal abused for not cleaning the dishes properly being called “Slow pock you can’t do anything right.” However she was able to survive the abuse. Susy told her friends about the situation they will encourage by having similar problems turning into a positive joke and laughing about it, Susy friend name Ashley says, “It’s ok my mom called me slow pock for not cleaning my room.” The common situation she had with her mother has helped her deal with her abuse …show more content…
The author Marcielle was abused in her childhood she says, “It was an accident we meet”(5). She felt in the first beginning it was an accident that she bump into her mom in the hallway and she said, “accident” was a mistake being born because she was not being accepted and being mistreated in verbal abuse. In Sussy story she said, Whenever I pass by my mother and say hi in public or in the household she will never say hi and ignore me because Sussy felt her mother though she was born for no reason and ruthess to her mother. Sussy felt that her coming into this world was a mistake because she wasn’t accepted by her mother. The verbal abuse in Marcielle relationship with her mother she said, during class “My mother will scream at her for not cleaning the floor right.” Marcielle was threaten by her mother to not tell anyone about the verbal abuse. Next, is Sussy story she was verbally abuse by not cleaning the toliet right her mother made her scrab it really hard when is really clean that their is no one tiny black scrab. Sussy said my mother verbal abused me If I didnt clean the toilet she will make me scarb harder till their is no tiny dark spot that my mother can see and If she did see it she will make me do it all over again”. Marcielle says, “What are these angry wings barring me from her garden(). She is mad that she has a perfect garden called Eden which is a place of her mom happiness and acceptance. She can go into her garden because she is forbied to go inside. She feels like her own mother is a stranger because she says, “Her breast is an exotic gift my lips never sucked.()”She never even had nutrition of milk by her own mother to confirm the connection of her and her mother when she was a baby. The breast is the first step of the baby to be accepted by the mother’s heart. Thus, Sussy has been strangers to her mom because they never went out to hang out become friends as mother and daughter. An example. “My mom uses to put me in the swings and enjoy it and she told me to clean all the time till she satisfies.”() Sussy feels her mother is a stranger she doesn’t know anything about her mother who was her first crush? or when did she got her first period? She feels within herself she did something wrong that made her mad and dislike her forever Sussy says, I bet I did something wrong that made her hateme forever and I blame myself for that one bug mistake I made when I was younger.()” however Marcielle feels feels she did something wrong that made her own mom go away example, “The last time she bathed me. I was five and embrassed. I turned away, and she left
