The job of a human services worker is centered on providing a service to an individual that assists them in meeting needs they have to function successfully. The counseling and therapy relationship between the client and the therapist must have clearly defined rights and responsibilities. All client’s involved in therapy, have certain rights that are important for them to be fully aware of. Additionally, the clients must also be aware of specific limitations to their rights. The practioner also has relating responsibilities to the client.
I. Confidentiality
With the exception of a couple specific exemptions listed below, clients have the right to expect complete confidentiality with regard to their therapy. Practioners may communicate information about client’s therapy and the fact that an individual is in therapy only after getting a signed written release of information.
