Abuse Of Power In Animal Farm

Animal Farm is a short story that tells the story of rebellion in Russia through the animals. It explores human nature as well as their social behaviour during this time. George Orwell uses symbolism to show his main idea of how rebellion doesn’t solve everything and the struggles the Russian people went through.
The farmhouse symbolises the power the pigs gain over the other animals. Throughout the whole text it is always occupied by either the humans or the animals themselves, it shows power from the very beginning as Old Mayor does all of his speeches in the farmhouse. “Man is the only enemy we have. Remove man”. Old Mayor says this in the farmhouse, this shows the great power the Mayor has over all the other animals. It not only shows the power the pigs had over the other animals, but their manipulation and evilness is shown during the constructing of the windmill. The pigs manipulate the animals into believing Snowball, one of the main pigs is on the human’s side. They do this by blaming the destruction of the windmill on Snowball so Napoleon the other main leader out of the pigs can have full power over the animals and get rid of Snowball. The windmill during Animal Farm shows many different aspects of power and greed. It really shows the power the pigs have as they do not build it, but they make all the other animals work long, tiring hours on building it for their own use.
