Abuse In The Workplace

“Until that campaign, front-and back-of-the-house workers thought they had nothing in common. After the campaign, it became clear that abuse in one part of a restaurant indicates that there is abuse throughout” (p163-164). This passage stayed with me from the beginning in that many times we face injustices and try to do best to correct them for ourselves but fail to recognize how it may be occurring simultaneously throughout an organization or workplace. I think this creates awareness that although there is always a difference in power structures within an establishment, abuse exists on all fronts.

The Glass Castle, written by Jeannette Walls, has a recurring theme of abuse by people in respected positions. The article, “Hollywood Actors Speak of ‘Rampant’ problem of Male Abusers Targeting Men,” written by Sam Levin, discusses the idea of older men using their power to target younger individuals. A clear similarity of these two sources is the idea of power being abused by individuals, to target those who are vulnerable. In recent times, there has been an influx of allegations made against celebrities, politicians, and church officials, who have abused their power. “Abuse of power” is defined as the action of an unlawful event, committed in an official space, which hinders the performance of official duties.…

I really enjoyed reading your post. You listed numerous reasons why covering up an organization’s deviant or criminal behavior is detrimental to society and for generations to come. I agree with you when you said that things will eventually come out and that it can make the problem bigger. Deviant behavior in an organization includes any type of behavior/action that is not acceptable by the company. This can mean doing anything that is harmful to the other employees as well as to the company itself (“Workplace Deviant Behavior,” 2014).…

For this assignment I decided to watch and interpret the show “Undercover Boss” season 4 episode 2. Throughout this episode I focused on four thinking errors, these errors were; The fundamental attribution error, availability heuristic, cognitive dissonance and normative influence. The very first thinking error I observed was the Fundamental attribution error. The hosts of undercover boss are posing a fake reality tv show on the restaurant under investigation and causing fundamental attribution error. This error is due to the fact that the employees are left in the dark and thinking one thing (That they’re on a reality show) while something else is happening, that being the filming of undercover boss.…
