Absolutism In Leadership

Improved Essays
Is there a right time to lie? Are morals absolute? As leaders, these are questions we encounter and ask ourselves everyday. Since leaders provide help, lead, and are responsible for others, they must always keep in mind how their actions will affect others. Leaders are often put in highly stressful situations that require them to think and make the best outcome possible. Leaders must provide the example and always do what is best for the majority of the people. In the essay "The Ways we Lie" by Stephanie Ericsson, It has been clearly described in many ways how a lie can be implied. Telling a lie can make life easier for some or even sometimes cause chaos. How would life be any different if there wasent anything called lying? Would people be alot happier or more on the offensive side. People get upset when a lie is being told to them but if theyre the ones lien, it's perfectly ok to do so.…

Most evil people in the world are described as being liars, but does this does not make all lies evil. Everyone lies and surely not everyone in the world is evil. Most people begin to lie at age four, but no one would call an innocent child evil. Many people would argue that people lie because they solely want to be deceitful, but not all lies are as simple as that. Stephanie Ericsson in The Ways We Lie discusses many different types of lies, and why people tell these types of lies.…

Why Is It Ok To Lie

Is it ok to lie in any situation, or is it just wrong to lie at all ? In four articles that I read, it states a couple of things, for example, they talk about lying and if it's bad, is lying sometimes good, and is lying good. I believe lying is only good sometimes and it should only be used in white lies. I think a good time to lie is when you protect someone. One scenario of this is the story of Ann Frank.this is a good example because they were protecting Ann and her family by saying that there was nothing upstairs.…

In 1579, this document’s year of publication, Western Europe was in the middle of a cultural and intellectual revival known as the Renaissance. An integral component of Renaissance thinking was “natural law”, a moral code applicable to all human beings regardless of social status. Natural law contrasts sharply with absolutism, a form of government in which the ruler has complete governing control over a population and can legislate regardless of the people’s interests. The text appears to be a response to absolutism in Europe that denounces absolute monarchical power, instead favoring humanistic ideas such as natural law and liberty. The author’s implicitly explained background information, his word choice, and the issues addressed imply that…

Most would say that it's best to lie sometimes for the sake of others and their feelings ,but others would argue that it's best to speak the truth always. I agree that it's best to tell the truth all the time. When a person is honest, it strengthens their relationship with others and lets people know that they have someone who will always tell them the truth instead of what they would want to hear. In short stories like “The Open Window’’ by Saki, “ the Cask of Amontillado’’ and” The Scarlet Ibis” the main characters told lies to either get revenge, for their own amusement or for their own reputation. If they were to have told the truth throughout the story they could have solved many problems in a responsible way.…

In the article by Christopher Robichaud, it mentions that “Kant maintained that our negative duty to not lie cannot be violated” (Robichaud 191). On the other hand, the nonconsequentialists believe that there are circumstances in which, “the duty not to deceive is trumped by other considerations” (Robichaud 191). For example, in this article it mentions that if Spider-Man was to tell Aunt May his secret he would cause tremendous pain. Enough pain that she can potentially die. In the view of a nonconsequentialists it would be argued that causing serious physical harm trumps deceiving.…

Lying… Is it okay to lie and if so, when should I lie? Many people think that it is sometimes okay to lie in certain situations such as protecting someone's feeling or possibly, savings someone's endangered life. Although others may argue that lying is never okay because you may lose your trust with someone close to you, which is completely possible and even though we all may be conflicted on the topic of lying there are positives and negatives to both sides of the spectrum. Leaders can often delude themselves into believing that they are working for the greater good when it may be the exact opposite. Leaders can become intoxicated with power, engaging in immoral acts just because they can get away with it due to their status of power. This only applies to a fraction of leaders but that does not mean it 's not an issue. The more power an individual possesses the more likely they are to morally deteriorate and focus on their own egocentric…

Most people will say that lying is never the answer, but they don’t always tell why. Lying often ends unethically, not only the can the lier be punished or feel guilty in the process, but it often goes further than anticipated. When looking back there seems to be more consequences on the result of the pretense than what the reward would have been if everything worked out and there was no lying. The Salem Witch Trials, the McCarthy Trials, and the McMartin Trials all proved that it is important to always be honest, regardless of the sacrifice.…
