The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is an okay book. It is one of the most challenged books in school systems. In The Diary Alexie has a lot of controversial content. The Diary is Semi-Autobiographical meaning the some of the events are based on events that happened to Alexie. Many people want to ban the book but I however think we should not ban the book because it helps people understand what's it's like to be in a minority, it’s Semi-autobiographical, and it holds educational value.
We should not ban this book because it shows what it's like to be apart of a minority. In the diary there’s a scene where one of juniors teachers visits junior and tells him how he was taught “kill the indian save the child”
““But i do forgive

In a few areas a great book, To Kill a Mockingbird, and many books like it are being banned. To Kill a Mockingbird is a very informative book on what life was like in the 1930’s, but it is still being banned for strong language, “strong content”, and strong cases of racism. Many schools have had kids read that book, but because of recent events a few have started to ban it. Some people believe that they can teach messages like the ones taught from this book, but in a better way, so they make it more suitable for kids to read. Some citizens feel that kids should be introduced to strong topics like this when they are in around 8th grade, which is a very common time for schools to have children/teens to read this novel in school, because kids need to be prepared for the real world early on.…

Banning Books It was April 8, 1933, the main office for Press and Propaganda of the German Student Union proclaimed a nationwide "Action against the Un-German Spirit". This was widely known as the German Book Burning, performed by the Nazis to “cleanse literary purge by fire”. These books were burned because they had religious and political thoughts that didn’t match what Germany wanted their citizens to perceive. At first glance, this would look like a tyrannical action forced upon citizens, and it is, most people would not be for this manipulative control because: it rids people of literary understanding, it is (as said before) manipulative, and most importantly, it abrogates the rights of a person.…

Book banning and censoring is something that happens in this country to stop children from being exposed to topics that are sometimes deemed too explicit to be suitable for children. Harper Lee’s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, keeps getting banned from the curriculum of a Mississippi middle school. This is happening for the books inclusion of rape and derogatory language, particularly the overuse of the n-word. Many also do not like how some of the characters in the novel are portrayed, and do not realize how this portrayal is very accurate to the time period. Because of the truthfulness of the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, along with every other book, should not be banned or censored because books reflect and bring awareness to real life problems, the practice of banning books violates the First Amendment, and reasons for book banning are often easily contradicted.…

What I can vividly recall is the fact that in reading this book I first encountered the word “nigger.” I had always heard the euphemistic phrase of this derogatory term, “the n-word” in the childish hallways of middle school, but for the first time I was faced with the full word, staring pointedly at me in black ink. I could feel the hurt Scout experienced as her peers taunted her, simply because her father believed it is right to love and defend everyone, regardless of their race. I believe this book is an excellent stepping-stone in the ongoing conversation of racial inequality. It is important for students to be exposed to the fact that openly racist ideologies were all too common in this country, not too long ago.…
