Group Two Reflection

Superior Essays
The first day of my English Composition One class has resulted in the formation of four different groups of young minds who have all come together to further their knowledge and better their writing skills. My group, affectionately titled Group Two, consists of two high school students and two eager minds who just graduated from high school themselves. Of the four of us, there is only one boy. I am quite happy with the members of my group, and believe that we will all be able to help one another as the semester continues. As a class assignment, I was assigned to complete the arduous task of learning about each individual member of my group, and then turning the information I received into an essay. Group Two consists of myself, Tylor, Alissa, …show more content…
At seventeen, her job experience is limited. For a short time she worked at a fireworks stand in Lake Hamilton. This was a summer job that required her to work for long hours in the blistering heat. As one of her closest friends, I would sometimes bring Alissa lunch. What I brought her ranged from pizza to mozzarella sticks, but she was grateful no matter what she received. Currently, Alissa is lacking in employment. She would like to work, however, and has applied at both Harps and Silver Screen Video. Once they start hiring, Alissa also plans on applying at Atwood’s. Her drive to find a place to work depicts Alissa’s work ethic, and shows that she does not easily give up on her goals. Alissa has plenty of room to learn. She is a high school senior and attends Mountain Pine with me and another student in this class. Her favorite subject is math, as she is enrolled in both AP Calculus and College Algebra. AP Calculus is an online class that Alissa takes at the high school, and it is becoming progressively more difficult. She takes College Algebra here at National Park Community College, which proves to be exceedingly easy for her. Alissa’s future goals for furthering her education are full of promise and hope. She wishes to attend college in New York, and is more than willing to work towards this dream. As far as her intended major goes, Alissa has wanted to become a psychologist for years, and it doesn’t seem as …show more content…
There is never a dull moment in her family. Excluding herself, she has six siblings, all of whom were born within ten years of each other. Her three brothers, Jarin, Roland, and Justin, are older than her. She also has two older sisters named Justine and Jalyssa. If it weren’t for her sister Kiya, Kayla would be the baby of the family. Moving on to the nonhuman family members, Kayla owns one dog. Ninna is a mix between a dachshund and a yorkie, and her owner loves her very much. When taking her seven nieces and nephews into consideration, it is easy to understand how Kayla came to be so good with children. She takes the role of caring aunt very seriously when she’s babysitting them. Like the other members of Group Two, Kayla’s education process is far from being over. She recently graduated from Hot Springs High School, a school she had only attended during her senior year. Her future plans include college, and she hopes to aid others in reaching their educational goals by becoming a teacher. Interestingly enough, Kayla has been through a number of what some may refer to as traumatic experiences. Originally from Louisiana, Kayla was living in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina devastated thousands in 2005. She survived the cruel storm and moved to Arkansas shortly after. Then, on January 10th, 2014, another terrible event took place. Kayla was crossing the street when a woman driving a Dodge Charger

Since the beginning of my first year at school I have been learning to read and write. Throughout these years I have had a lot of experiences with reading and writing. All through high school we would write responses and essays over books we read. Once I entered college everything changed; I began to learn about writers and people who were known because of their great works of literature. In college, you are held to a higher standard and responsibility than you are in high school; this challenge has encouraged me to work hard and because of this I have become better at writing.…

Freshman year of high school, I was ecstatic. Yes, being shoved in hallways and three minutes late to every class because of overpopulation everyday sucked, but I was finally a high schooler. Soon, I learned that rumors about being stuffed in a locker was the least of my worries. I was compelled to make life changing decisions about my future and whether or not I wanted to go to college. My sister, Amber, conceived my nephew, Trey, at 16 during her sophomore year, resulting in her flunking out of high school, therefore, I did not have anyone to forewarn me or even give me a fairytale.…

My decision to return to college was purely random. There was no pondering over the decision; no weighing in the pros and cons, no thinking it through or any real thought behind it. I literally woke up one morning and said to myself “I think I’ll go back to college” and I made the call. I called the College of New Rochelle and made the appointment for the admissions test. And before I knew what was actually happening, I was a matriculated college student.…
