Weingarten Inc. has over 100 retail stores, which ave lobby food operations, lunch counters to an area to eat or take out food. Leura Collins was a sales personnel and worked at the lunch counter at Store No. 2. She worked there for 9 years before transferring to Store No. 98. The company has a security department, “Loss Prevention Specialists,” which looks over employee dishonesty and shoplifting. A report was filed against Collins that she was taking money from the cash register so Hardy, who worked in the security department observed her for 2 days but found no evidence against. Later on, the store manager informed Hardy that another employee reported Collins had sold a box of chicken for $2.98 but put only $1.00 in the cash register. She …show more content…
Hardy then left the interview and went to go check with another employee if what she was saying was true. The employee affirmed that the smaller boxes was out but he/she did not know the number of pieces of chicken Collins placed in the larger box. When Hardy returned back to the room, he told Collins that the matter was closed and he apologized. However, before leaving she blurted out that the only free thing she received from the store were the lunches. As the case mentions, the company policy was not provide free lunches to stores that had lobby departments. In fact, almost everyone in the store, including the manager received free lunches. Hardy wrote a statement which mentioned that Collins owed the store about $160 for the lunches and she refused to sign. Even the headquarters was not even sure if the policy was in effect for Store No. 98. Again, Collins asked for a union representative to be present and she was denied by the store manager. The store manager also told Collins to not to discuss the interrogation with anyone else, however, Collins told all the details to her shop steward and the union
