As David Brisben, Ph.D., Trinity Evangelical Divinity School states in his article “Abram´s Struggle to Trust God as ‘El Shaddai’.” the story of Abraham is classifies as a chiasm in seven parts due the parallelism and complementarity of the story. In the first and seventh part, God calls Abraham and commands him to prove his faith, Abraham trust in God and God keeps his promises. In the second and sixth part, Abraham does not believe in God faithfulness and lies about Sarah, however God keeps his promises and protect Abraham. In the third and fifth part, God confirms his covenant and reveals his plans to Abraham. Finally, in the fourth part, Abraham misunderstands the plan of God having a Child with Hagar, the house maid of Sarai. In story of Abraham, despite God appears to Abraham and makes the covenant promises of land and numerous offspring, Abraham fails proving his faith many times. As The IVP Bible Dictionary explains, following the sequence of the story of Abraham, one can see a circle of faith, fall and redemption. Abraham believes in God, but when a difficult appears, he gives up. In the first part, Abraham has faith and goes from the promise land to Egypt, then, despite God promised him protection, he lies about her wife since he is afraid to die. God promise many times to Abraham numerous offspring, but because his wife is barren, Abraham misunderstood the promise of God and conceive Ismael with the housemaid of his wife, Hagar. Despite years of unbelief, God gives Abraham Isaac, who is son of Sarai his wife.
