Abraham’s Last Test In Genesis 22:1-19, “The Command to Sacrifice Isaac” (Gen 22:1-19), Abraham is given a test by God. This will have been Abraham’s last test, and possibly his toughest. God tells Abraham to “take your son […] and offer him there as a burnt offering” (Gen 22:2). Abraham listens to God and proceeds to take his son to Moira to sacrifice him as an offering. Before he manages to do so, an angel from God halts him and tells Abraham had passed the test. Abraham shows how truly faithful he is in this passage. He is then blessed for his actions. The main message of this passage is that God gives us test in life to see if we are faithful to him and that we trust him. The passage starts off with God telling Abraham to sacrifice Isaac as an offering to test him (Gen 22:2). A reason as to why God chose Isaac to be sacrificed would be that it might make Abraham more hesitant to obey, since Abraham loves Isaac dearly. Even …show more content…

Abraham lies to him and responds “God will provide the lamb.” Abraham may have chosen to lie to Isaac, because Isaac was likely to run away, had he known that he would be used as the sacrifice. When Abraham says that God will provide the lamb, he was likely referring the “lamb” as Isaac. This part in the passage further shows Abrahams trust and faith in God since Abraham lied to his son whom he loved to carry out God’s order. Before the sacrifice is begun, an angel stops Abraham from continuing (Gen 22:13). So instead of sacrificing his son, Abraham sacrifices a ram. The angel later delivers a message from to Abraham stating that “Because you have done this […] I will indeed bless you” (Gen 22:13-19). When God blesses Abraham, it shows that Abraham had passed God’s test by not withholding his son, it shows that the relationship between God and Abraham had
