Abrahamic Faiths: Similarities Between Judaism And Christianity

Abraham, a man considered to be the father of the Jewish people, lived around 1900 BCE in Mesopotamia and Canaan. Judaism and Christianity are both Abrahamic faiths. This is only one of many similarities between these two religions. Although Christianity and Judaism differ in some ways, one can use the foundations and origins, ideology, and sacred texts of these faiths to prove that they are more alike than different.
First, where these religions came from and what they are based are only the beginning of similarities. As stated before, both of these religions date back to Abraham and are Abrahamic faiths. All Abrahamic faiths are monotheistic, meaning they only believe in one god. In both of these religions there are people who speak God’s message, prophets. Not only were his followers Jewish, but Jesus Christ himself was raised a Jew. All of these facts support that the foundations and origins of Judaism and Christianity contribute to the two faiths being extremely similar.

Again, since they are both Abrahamic faiths, Jews and Christians share the beliefs in how the universe came to be, the first humans, and their monotheism. It is believed that God created the universe in six days, each day being around fifty thousand years, and on the seventh day he rested. After this, the first humans were Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve lived in a garden full of fruits that they could eat. However, there was one tree, known as the tree of knowledge of good and evil, that they were not allowed to eat from. As one could guess, curiosity took over the minds of Adam and Eve and they ate the fruit from that one tree, which opened a door to suffering and injustice.
