Abraham Lincoln's Speech Comparison: The First American Civil War

War is hell, yet civil war remains the deepest pit of this inferno. For it is civil war where brothers break bonds and murder the ones that they so loved. American history has been plagued with a dark past of cultural divide. There have been a plethora of stories about the tragedy of the union north fighting against the confederate south. This time period was a catastrophic storm that broke the very foundation which our nation was founded upon. Many lives had been lost in an effort to determine which ideology was superior to the other. People began to question why they were fighting in the first place. Then, in the midst of the bleak onslaught, Abraham Lincoln came forth and reminded everyone why this war was so important. In only two minutes, Lincoln reminded the union soldiers that sacrifice was mandatory if they were to continue the struggle which their ancestors fought so hard for: freedom, equality, and unity among fellow Americans. Focusing on America’s past was a vital move for Lincoln. Thousands of Union soldiers seemed to lose focus on what was the overriding problem to begin with.
