The United States of American was divided beyond repair--torn asunder by the decades-long debate over slavery and its future in the American republic. One month later, that division erupted into a civil war. US was in urgent need of someone that can led this country out of misery. As some people who talked frequently with Abraham Lincoln might describe him as “In temper he was Earnest, yet controlled, frank, yet sufficiently guarded, patient, yet energetic, forgiving, yet just to himself; generous yet firm. . .His whole nature was simple and sincere – he was pure, and then was himself” (J. T. Duryea). Abraham Lincoln was actually commonly known as Honest Abe during his time. The Washington Times even referred to Abraham Lincoln as decent, kind, sensitive, compassionate, honest and empathetic. Nowadays, we know Abraham Lincoln as the wise yet humble leader who united a broken country.
United states of America is a country that went through many ups and downs, Abraham Lincoln was a president of the US who led the country out of its down times and back to its up times again. Not only did he led the country during the US civil war, and eventually reuniting the country, he also freed all enslaved people of the United States by issuing the Emancipation Proclamation.
