He tended to be a slow talker even in court; consequently, he learned how to get his point across while still being short, sweet, and powerful. These same things carried over into his presidency where he gave some of the shortest and most moving speeches like the Gettysburg Address. The exceedingly common thing that people know about Lincoln is his name “Honest Abe” which also played into his role as a communicator. People knew that he was not like most other politicians in his communications and especially in his honesty; therefore, more people were more likely to listen to his opinions, suggestions, and declarations. He was able to make a decision, push for it, and stand by it. It is so easy, especially during hard times, to sit and consider all of the options and all of the possible outcomes, but this wastes time. Lincoln saw the cruciality of time in his case, and he made the decision to go with what he thought was best for the majority. At the time, lots of people disliked his decisions and the way that he made them, but I think it is fair to say that our world would be very different without him.
