Abraham Lincoln: The Greatest President In The United States

Abraham Lincoln is one of the greatest president in the United States. Lincoln was born on February 12,1809, in Sinking Spring Farm near Hodgenville, Kentucky, according to historynet.com. As a child, he loved to read, he would walk for miles to borrow a book. He received little formal education, because his family was poor, so he self- educated himself. He moved several places, from Kentucky to Indiana, and finally settled in Illinois. His law practice began from there. During the Civil War, two significant events that Lincoln did during his presidency was that he tried to keep the North and South united and ended slavery in America. The federal government was able to proved its power to states. Many towns, schools, and plantations in the South were being destroyed from the war, so the government plan to rebuild the South, this period is known as the Reconstruction Era. In addition,the war help manufacturing develop bigger in the U.S. because the plantations were being destroyed during the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln was reelected in November 8, 1864. In April 14, 1865 he was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth, a famous actor sympathize in Confederate. Lincoln was shot at the Ford’s Theater in Washington D.C. He died the day after. His vice president, Andrew Johnson, took his office. Lincoln becoming the first president that to be assassinated. The most significant event during Lincoln’s presidency was ended slavery and united the North and the South. Lincoln’s contributions greatly impact the U.S. history. In my opinion, Abraham Lincoln was the president who persevere. He never gave up on his learning, even if his family can’t able to support him. He also keep on trying to attempt again when he fail. One example, is that he lost eight election but keep on running to become a politician. He is a great example of people who
