Abraham Lincoln The Greatest President Analysis

When people discuss the greatest presidents, the name Abraham Lincoln is always mentioned. There is a list of criteria that is considered when discussing and choosing the greatest presidents. These have to accomplish a lot that improves the quality of life for the country and its’ citizens. These acts normally have future generations looking back impressed and proud of the outcome. Abraham Lincoln is greatly revered as the President who abolished slavery and preserved the Union. In the 21st century where equality is essential and race should not matter, the act of abolishing slavery is enough to regard Lincoln as a hero. However, he also preserved our country and without his actions, the United States would not be the same country as it is today. These acts are the reason why he is considered as one of the greatest presidents in history, especially as they were accomplished during a civil war. While he did preserve the Union and abolish slavery, he also presided over the deaths of over three-quarters of a million Americans. By not focusing on the negative aspects of Lincoln and the civil war, people are able to feel better about the events of the past. For example, Lincoln by abolishing slavery to free the slaves and not as a military ploy, allows Americans to feel better about themselves and accept their past with the belief slavery ended and the Union won because it was just and right and not for some other reason.
